CGR Photographers!

Well, I went out and picked up a new (used) toy today, and I figured that it would be fun to have a post your gear thread.

Anyhow, I picked up a Nikon N80 body (35mm film SLR), Nikon 50mm f/1.8d, and a cheap Slik tripod.

I haven't gotten to shoot SLR in about three years now, so i'm very happy to be getting back into it. I chose the lens since it will be a nice ~70mm when I get my D70s setup, hopefully next year. Anyhow, film is a lot of fun, but definitely has more cost associated, and is less forgiving of errors as such.

On the other hand, film quality still > DSLR quality

I have a Nikon coolpix 2100 2mp digital point & shoot that i use for junk shooting, as well as composing (try to save some film, at least).

Post your gear & shots.

here's one from my point & shoot ghettoness:

someone can move it then. I forgot we had that forum. :P

I find that most people around these parts have their set forums that they frequent, and no others.

I would post some of my awesome pictures with my mad picture-taking-skillz. But, the cameras I use are analog... and mostly B&W.. I will scan a couple for y'all.

When I first read that, I thought, "Why the heck is he talking about shooting an SLR in the photography forum?" Then I realised that I was thinking of a different SLR:

(SLR [self-loading rifle] having been the commonly used term in the British Army for the old L1A1).

Personally, I'm using a Nikon E4600. Don't really have any really great shots, but this one wasn't bad. The building on fire had been condemned by the base, and so the Fire Service took advantage of the condemnation order to hold a major excercise. So they torched it and practiced firefighting. And I snuck inside the Military Police perimeter to get a few shots.

Good camera. You should go for the Nikon 50mm 1.8 (about $100) or the Nikon 50mm 1.4 (about $270).

When you see the quality and the difference of having another 2 plus f stops to work with, you'll get rid of your zoom and do it the old fashion way - move closer or further away

Love to see pics from your current set up.

That or just save up for a 2.8 zoom with vibration reduction of up to 3 stops.

I love prime lenses but too often (shooting weddings) I don't have the time to constantly change lenses and I can't always get closer or back up.

i've gotten a few off of the slr today. Keep in mind that this is nothing special ISO 200 with the N80 & 50mm f1.8 lens.

The last one was taken by the guy in the third pic, since i'm in #4.

FWIW, i'm definitely still getting used to shooting SLR again. it's been a long time.
