man, you've got to include some Rich Mullins in there....the guy had some incredible songs and on many occasions played with such fervor that his hands would be bleeding by the end of the song.
Recommended songs by him

If I Stand
Elijah (original version)
My Deliverer
To Tell Them
Peace (my song of choice) - this song is The Reason why I fell in love with the piano

anyway, those are a few highly worth considering

It's the poll that never dies!

One more piano driven song that I remembered is "Use Me" by Shaded Red. Great, great song.

My favourite piano driven song that is within the CCM realm is probably 'Everything heart and soul' by Geoff Moore & the Distance.

Outside of CCM, some piano driven tunes I like include 'Walking in Memphis', or stuff by Billy Joel like 'The ballad of Billy the Kid', 'Miami 2017', 'Big Man on Mulberry Street', etc.

But i'm serious, unless you've taken some kind of theory class or something like, guitar teaches you absolutely nothing about the art of music.
It would be equally true to say that unless you've taken some kind of theory class or something like, piano teaches you absolutely nothing about the art of music.

But neither statement is true - it is more than possible to pick up theoretical knowledge without taking a class or ever having any kind of lessons, and the whole point about 'art' is that it is way more than just theory. Theory without practical expression isn't art. But my main point is there is no magical property built in to pianos that somehow transfer more musical knowledge to a music student than any other instrument you name.

Quote:
Sure you can make stuff that sounds like music........but you'll never have the knowledge or understanding of music that a pianist does.
'Sounds like music'? If it sounds like music it is music.

Where did you get the idea that pianists have an understanding of music? Some do, but it is far from automatic. I know some piano players that are good enough technically to play almost any classical piece you throw at them, and play it 'with feeling', but they have virtually no music theory knowledge at all. For example I know a young woman that can play pretty much every published Beethoven work, yet she doesn't know what notes make up a minor ninth chord.

You don't need an understanding of how music works to be able to play it well. And you don't need an understanding of how music works to be able to write it well...it helps, but it isn't necessary.

But again, pianists in fact don't have a better knowledge or understanding of music than those who play other instruments. They just think they do.

And yes, I am a pianist.

Anyone say "The Dance" by Garth brooks yet?

Or how about that grungish rock song from the 80s that had the chorus: "YOOOOU GOOTTT IT ALLL BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE IT" where the guy plays a piano solo at the end, and then the piano blows up?

Cool Piano

Sean Groves "Welcome Home"
I think "Welcome Home" by Sean Groves is a great piano driven song that wasn't on the list. IMHO I think this is one of the best piano songs yet!

Thanks,
Chris
