| D&D Anyone else here play that or other RPGs? Any funny stories from campaigns or such you've got (please, don't post a fan-fic novel, just stuff that happened playing the game)?

| Here I was, just thinking of creating a D&D thread and I find it has already been done...
I play once a week with a fairly large group of gamers, including my girlfriend (she's just learning). We play in the new Eberron campaign setting with a DM who doesn't seem to mind sending us to the brink of death. None of us have died yet, but I suspect that will change soon. I'm currently playing a Mahkim Warrior-Poet. The Mahkim is a four-armed amphibian race that I got from an old 3.0 supplement and the Warrior-Poet is a class I made myself combining the Bard and Barbarian. We've only played a few sessions in this campaign so far, so we're all still first level.
Anyone else play DnD? |

| I've played when I was younger and I liked it alot. How do you get around the religous issues everyone seems to have with it? Neways, my favorite class is rogue and I usually go Rogue/Bard eventually.

Anyways, all of the members of our group are strong Christians, so that's not really an issue for us. Quote: |

| How would one get into it? I have always been interested in D&D (yeah, i am a huge dork), but not quite sure how to play, or even if it's computer or board game format, or how one would go about finding a group to play with.

| Here's a link about religion and D&D (it's by a minister that actually uses the game in ministry). http://www.mjyoung.net/dungeon/confess.html
Godslilrosebud, RPGs are basically storytelling games, there's just rules (using dice to determine random events) to fairly figure out things (supposedly solving the problem people have playing Cowboys and Indians of "bang-you're dead"-"no, you missed!")
SCCHarpGirl, Dungeons and Dragons, and pen and paper RPGs in general, are the grandparents of modern computer games, and could be considered "board game" (it's the closest catagory in this entertainment section).
Gameplay consists of 3 to seven geeks, dorks, and nerds sitting around a table, making a story, occasionally rolling dice and then argueing with one player (called the Dungeon Master, DM for short, sort of a referee and narrator) about whether or not one of the other players took and action.
This link does a better job of explaining what actually happens during a game. http://www.angelfire.com/rpg2/dnd3e/...anddragons.mp3
I'd recommend finding someone locally that plays, and ask if you could participate in thier next gaming session.

Skeeter and j2_da_k: Ah, bards! -ish. Sorta. I usually start with a cleric, that is really more of a fighter that steps back every couple of turns, heals himself, and then goes back into the fray. There was one time I had a bardbarangerlic, and Bard/Barbarian/Ranger/Cleric (with no EXP penalties!), which was interesting in a party of level 13 characters ("why, yes, I can do that, just not as well as you can").

God Bless

This is actually my first time playing a bard-type character and I'm enjoying it. Previously I've been rangers, rogues, sorcerors, and barbarians. Never got into druids, clerics, or wizards, but I am planning on playing a monk next. |

If it weren't for the lawful alignment, I'd probably play monks for the simbple reason that I wouldn't need to buy anything.

| Lawful alignment isn't all that bad, especially when you're in Eberron, which is a lot more forgiving when it comes to alignment. Eberron also has some sweet feats for Monks that allow them to use longswords or other martial weapons as monk weapons. Great stuff. |

| Lawful alignment isn't bad, it's just that it's easier for me to play chaotic good or chaotic neutral characters. I just do whatever I would do in given situations.
I did play a dwarf paladin once. Really just a very old alter boy, using the censor (sp?) as a flail, and I wasted as many skill points as possible into singing tenor.
