Did you play with the sharpening on those any? Things like hair, the piano strings and dust/texture on the piano look over-sharpened to me. I'd like them softened a bit. I like the composition of the over-the-shoulder shot and the one across the soundboard. I'd like the keys one more if the background weren't so busy. Turning off the lights in the back might've helped.

And since Brandon mentioned lightning... This was sometime last year right after I got a new digital camera (Canon Powershot A75) and had been doing some experimenting with the manual mode and relearning what I picked up in high school photography class. I decided this night that it would be fun to go out in a thunderstorm. I'm glad I did.

P.S. Speaking of high school... I scored a Pentax K1000 last week on eBay for less than 50 bucks. It's what I learned on in high school...even came with an extra 135mm lens. Took it to a Jars of Clay concert Friday night to do some test shooting with a roll of Fuji 800 speed. I'll post some of those if/when I get a chance to scan in the negatives at work.

I took a few from this spot. I purposely set the shutter speed too long because I like the way it blows out the lights in that gas station so you don't see all the junk inside.

First of a few lightning shots from the same spot. I basically sat there with an umbrella and set the shutter to expose for 15 seconds. Did it over and over for about 30 minutes...click, 2 seconds to stop touching camera, 15 second exposure, 5 more seconds of processing time and I can see the image I just took. This one had a couple bursts of lighting in that 15 seconds, hence the overexposure.

This one is cool because it looks like two bolts of lightning interconnected or something over to the right side.

One of the better ones as far as colors and amount of lightning goes.

They say lightning actually starts at the ground and goes up to the sky. This picture sort of illustrates that with the thick roots of the bolts on the ground and thin ends searching for a connection in the clouds.

Ya, I'm still trying to figure out unsharp masking.... They look better in the original edits I did before I resized them.... I didn't sharpen them too much in those. But since I resized them, the settings had to be changed... and thus, my problems. I'll probably try and working on that a bit.

Some other issues I know I have are in the last two. I want the rest of her elbow in the second to last one and I want her whole hand in the last one. I guess in the heat of the moment, I wasn't thinking of such things.

Kato: The water drops are interesting. The other ones don't really move me that much. They may be too busy for my tastes or something. The pumpkins come close to doing it for me, but I'm not sure what it is about them that doesn't. Does bring an idea to mind, though. With their vibrant color it might be interesting to put them in a scene...maybe a darker scene as far as colors go...and desaturate everything but the pumpkins. That'd be on for the photo manip. thread, though.

The background is too washed out and the foreground is too dark. And the beautiful colors that I'm sure attracted you to taking this shot are just not seen in the pic. In contrast, look at a picture like this of fall weather and notice how much more the colors are accentuated.
