To do low light - not everything needs to be dark. You still need to put the focus on the subject...meaning the guys face should be better exposed.
i see, it is a selfportrit by the way

Two pictures taken with a timer. I need a tripod... one was set on a pile of logs and the other on some rusty machine that happened to be there, thus the positioning wasn't choice.

Since you're bored with the thread, here's a few to critique.

Your road photo isn't bad either.

Some of the others suffer from framing issues (rule of thirds works wonders), a clearly chosen subject, or a non-level horizon. Certainly, none of these are deal-breakers when dealing with photography (and can actually be used creatively)... but good to keep in mind when taking the picture -- and can certainly be changed later in Photoshop/Gimp. IMO, a little tweaking of these would turn them from 'ok' to 'good'.

And again, I love that sunset.

Well, since I added them to the "gallery" thread, might as well add these to the critique thread.

I've been taking one self portrait a day and plan to do it for an entire year. Here's some of my favorites so far.

Day 24

Day 17

Day 7

The first two look great. I really like the cold, dreary feeling of the first, and the colors match that. Something that might have been cool could have been sitting someone down in the middle of the shot. Just an idea.

Third, lacks a bit of a subject and the straightening out the horizon would have been great.

I'd definitely like to see the shot down the road and maybe the sunset with the trees and stuff in our photo gallery thread.

I guess it's time for me to post a few in here, now that I have some recently taken pics I actually like..

Click to make these bigger (and take you to my Flickr).

Art told me to take that shot as we were driving by. =)

Guess I can post some of what I've been doing the last few weeks... I've got a lot to catch up.

Equally as amazing. Good show.

I even met and hung out with Lauren a couple times when she came to visit in IL.

Sorry, I just had to share that incredible amount of coincidence. I guess it's true what they say... small world and all.

haha yeah man I was going to make a note on that. I think I had read some comments exchanged by you and Lauren. Andrew and I and a guy named Daley Hake took a roadtrip recently - that's how I got this photo of Laura. We went up and stayed with her for a few days.

Cool kids...and definitely a small world - especially among myspace and nashville haha.

Its not exactly following the rule of 3rds, but I think it works
The rule of thirds is overrated.

But seriously, nice shot. I agree, it does work.

Same girl? Almost looks like it. Freaky.

I almost think the second one would have been more effective as a nude shot. It's not like you'd see anything in that pose anyway, but the clothes kind of take away from the animalistic / gargoylish nature of the pose and are a bit distracting where they cover the tattoo. I think I might have liked to see her other hand, too. Otherwise, it's pretty intense, even with the slightly silly melodramatic facial expression she's got going on.
