If you framed it better or focused more on that, maybe as a macro up close shot, it would be much more engaging I think. | Quote:

Just my thought. | Ok. Good ideas. I very much agree with the "it's a clock" statement.
I had some other shots showing the blur a little better, but most of them made the hand look jittery and I really didn't like that (all the same angle too).
Background on this one --
I was kinda bored on a Sunday afternoon at someone's house.. and was snapping pictures while laying on the couch. This was, by far, the most interesting thing I got from my cozy position. Quote:

| Oh the pains of being a photographer.
My photography teacher tells his students that whenever you can get a picture of something from a view that no one else usually sees, then do it, and if that means getting on your belly, or standing on a table, just do it.
Jon, about your pics, I really like the first two. I'm not a huge fan of the his position in the third. It's not a bad shot, it's just not as strong as the others, IMO. He and the keyboard split the photo in half a bit.
The fourth set look just a bit awkward to me, probably because I think his holding the keyboard looks a bit unnatural, like it's obviously posed. Perhaps just not my preference. |

| I love those promo shots. So awesome. I especially love the middle two, the first because it cuts off the head and brings attention to the out of the ordinary attire, and the second because the angle of the head is neat. |

I am havnig a hard time putting my thoughts to words right now, but I like it nonetheless.

| Hardcore show this weekend at my house.
I have no idea how I got this. I think someone bumped into me while taking it.
I don't even like hardcore. |

I'm curious. Are you getting your color from post-processing?

| Thanks. Yeah, at first I was taking them and I just laid the photo on top without much thought and took a few pics. Then I thought, "I should make this look more natural," and ended up moving some of the leaves so that they overlaid the photo slightly. It's a subtle difference, but I think it makes the photo for the reason you stated. Quote: |
I like this one too, but the effect isn't the same as the first one.
| I agree. I like the DOP I got, but I think it doesn't feel the same, especially with the glare on the photo making it kinda hard to see what the photo is. Quote: |

| Well, for reference, here's one of my photos untouched and one with post-processing.
The top is untouched and the bottom is after post-processing. It was a pretty dark, cloudy day. I used a couple techniques to get that specific look besides a general exposure and levels adjustment. The first was to duplicate the layer, then set the top layer to "Soft Light" blending mode, and mixed it in with the opacity. It gives the photo a little more "pop" overall and a bit more contrast. The color effect is all from Curves that I adjusted myself.
I'd really like to get to the point where I need to use as little post-processing as possible. But I'm not quite there yet, nor do I have the gear probably to help with that. I have a friend who's photos look really good, and I just assumed she did at least some post-processing to get the kinda colors and depth that she got in some of them, but I found out that she actually did little to no post-processing whatsoever. Knowing that, the photos impressed me even more. |
