This is about as good as it gets with that photo. The blue haze just can't be gotten rid of, but the land and smaller details were definitely brought out from the blue a lot better...

I absolutely love this picture. I don't know if most people like the way the picture blurs around the edges but I do. I don't know what else to say really...love it though.

I was playing with the shutter speed on the journalism camera that I took home from school (Nikon D50 Digital SLR). I decided to go down the street and take a picture at a busy intersection. I took this one at a 3 second shutter speed. Besides using a tripod next time, what else should I do?

A little less ground, a little more sky, and get the sign on the right a little more in the frame. I actually don't mind the blurriness of everything. It kinda gives a weird feel to it that I like. So I say try shooting another one the same way without a tripod, and shoot one with it, then compare.

Thanks! I'll try that out a bit tomorrow. I'm a bit busy to do it tonight. I was using a 6.3MP SLR camera then, so I wonder how it'll turn out on my poor little 3MP camera.

Except (maybe) you should've removed the chair and stool in the first one. But that's a minor detail.

Great job

Surprisingly, I took this with a standard point-and-shoot digital camera... I was surprised at how well it turned out to be. (The first attachment is a smaller version, and the second is a larger one.)

So any critique?

A little dark for my taste. If I were editing it in Photoshop (or whatever program you use), I'd check the levels and try to get a little more balance throughout. I also wonder what it might look like black and white with the contrast boosted a little. And maybe it's just me, but I feel like the framing could be better. It may be just me though, because sometimes those center shots really work. I just don't know.

I know what you mean about point and shoot's surprising you though. I actually took this one with a disposable and scanned it in... of course I messed with it a little in Photoshop, but still...

maybe it's just my screen....but it doesn't really seem all that dark. maaaaybe a little bit more contrast, but not much.

But he's right about the composition. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the rule of 3rds? but generally photos look best with the subject in the top/bottom and left/right 3rd of the frame.

this isn't ALWAYS true, but in general it adds more dynamikc to the picture.

Thanks Cadence... it was taken with a pretty simple digital camara and no touch ups... my friend says it looks great because the air in Rarotonga is so clean... no pollution.
