The first makes me wonder what he's facing since I can't see any of it. The last one is really good. A cool effect might be to cut him out and put him back in larger where he looks like he's closer to you. Then crop out the space on the left side so that it's centered on the path of trees.

Sorry everyone- mine aren't half as good as all of yours. | Those are nice. Where do you live?

P.S. Speaking of high school... I scored a Pentax K1000 last week on eBay for less than 50 bucks. It's what I learned on in high school...even came with an extra 135mm lens. Took it to a Jars of Clay concert Friday night to do some test shooting with a roll of Fuji 800 speed. I'll post some of those if/when I get a chance to scan in the negatives at work.
I took a few from this spot. I purposely set the shutter speed too long because I like the way it blows out the lights in that gas station so you don't see all the junk inside.
First of a few lightning shots from the same spot. I basically sat there with an umbrella and set the shutter to expose for 15 seconds. Did it over and over for about 30 minutes...click, 2 seconds to stop touching camera, 15 second exposure, 5 more seconds of processing time and I can see the image I just took. This one had a couple bursts of lighting in that 15 seconds, hence the overexposure.
This one is cool because it looks like two bolts of lightning interconnected or something over to the right side.
One of the better ones as far as colors and amount of lightning goes.
They say lightning actually starts at the ground and goes up to the sky. This picture sort of illustrates that with the thick roots of the bolts on the ground and thin ends searching for a connection in the clouds. |
i love lightning.

| This is one I took of our very own Cat at the Holloween party at our church.
It was taken with just her point-and-shoot digital camera (an Olympus). I then took it on PaintshopPro where I did minor changes. I first used the clone brush to get rid of a tiny strand of hair that was almost visible (I am somewhat of a perfectionist). I then changed the color-balance, adjusted the light levels and added a soft-focus filter.

I find it a lot easier to use than Photoshop. But I don't have it installed anymore.
*mental note to get it back from his brother*
Incidently, I like the guy in your signature picture. He's carrying the good ol' MAT-49. Great weapon. Cheap, simple and rugged. What else do you need?

Thank the (in?)famous Kati for that one. She did an awesome job. It's a French Soldier, actually. I think it's a G.I. Joe.
Oh, yes. PSP is adequate, but I love Photoshop and am going to upgrade to CS2 here soon... once I can cough up near $1,000. By the way, does anyone know where to buy such programs at a discounted price?
