| It was a day like any other... Sunday Morning.
7:45.
Alarm.
Turn it off, roll out of bed.
Stumble downstairs for some breakfast - Marshmellow Froot Loops.
It was an ordinary Sunday morning. But was it? As I spiked my hair and put in my contact lenses, something wasn't quite right. What was it? This sneaking suspicion that today was going to be different... drastically.
I knew it.
Today was the day.
9:25. A bit late for Sunday School since it had started ten minutes ago, but I was still OK. As I entered the classroom where my Youth Pastor was teaching, I entered and was seated. Our classroom was pretty cool - we had three couches set up to form a square in the middle of the room, with chairs in between the couches. In all we had about 20-30 kids. I knew pretty much all of them.
I was still sure that something different was going to take place.
Sunday School was pretty interesting, and I moved on to the actual church service. The worship was better than usual because we had bongo drums this week and a new song. The sermon kept my attention, yet it didn't quite apply to me. All in all it was a good church service, but something was missing.
Later our family went to Carlos O Kelly's to eat for lunch. We discussed what we had talked about in Sunday School, and other random things. It was a good discussion, but my dissapointment was growing.
Finally, I sit here, beginning my Christian Guitar Journal. Something is going to happen today. But I know why I am dissapointed.
So often I go to church as a social event. Maybe that's not how I view church, but that's what it ends up being because I don't have the right mindset. I think on Sunday mornings it's important to tell yourself WHY you are going to church EVERY morning, so we don't fall into a simple routine of going through the motions.
I think that I have been well taught. I know what church is and should be. Yet I find it so hard to apply this to my life. I got a lot out of the sermon, yet I don't feel like I was prepared for the service. My heart needs to focus on Christ, not whether the music sounds good today.
In one hour I have to go prepare for the music at Youth Group tonight. We will practice for an hour, then have Bible Study.
After this, Youth Group will begin.
I'm not going to let the routine take over.
I will keep in mind who I am worshipping, and make God my focus, not the music.
Tonight will be different.
-Debussie
__________
side note
Please help me out on this. Any suggestions that would help take away the routine of worship would be helpful. Scripture references, anything. Thanks. |

| hey, debussie! I am ben. I know how you feel about church. This morning I have to admit I wasn't listening to the preacher as much as I should have. Sometimes the music can get you into the right mindset to worship.
I like the thourough synopsis of your day. hope you keep it up. chow. |

I have rooted for them in the past, but that was only because my dad played high school baseball against paul oneill and their triple-A team is in columbus ohio, (near where I live) but last season I betrayed them and rooted for the red sox. |

If the Chiefs haed gotten in I would have rooted for them, but they didn't so now im rooting for the White Sox. I wanted the RS to win last year.

Which was like a week ago, because I never get on these forums. But don't worry, I'll check my journal more often now that I know a couple more people are replying. |

| 20 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME
SCHOOL
1. I go to a private christian school ...well... a school can't be a christian ...so... a school for christians.
2. Biology's my most favoritist subject, probably. And Bible. That's always lotsa fun too.
3. I used to be homeschooled. Now that I'm in highschool we decided my mom couldn't teach me as well as Cornerstone (my school) could.
WHERE
4. I live in Illinois. I'm not going to give out too much personal info, just because. But yeah we have no hills at all here. All flat land, where ever you look. You get used to it... but it is a boring landscape.
5. I used to live in Pennsylvania. Specifically, Philidelphia. I was born and raised there.
6. We moved to Illinois when I was 6.
ADOPTION
7. We adopted a baby girl from China two years ago. She's three years old. She's really cute.
8. In our church there are about eight families who have adopted or are thinking about adoption.
9. One family in our church has 14 kids... 11 of them are adopted, 3 of them are birth children.
MUSIC
10. I play piano/keyboard, and I'm learning guitar. I've been playing for 6 months.
11. I listen to mainly punk rock music. I love to listen to music. Relient K, Switchfoot, Coldplay, Daphne Loves Derby, Sanctus Real, Stellar Kart... oooohhhh that's what I'm talking about don't get me STARTED!!!
12. I play keyboard in worship band at school (we play for chapel on fridays) and I play for Youth Group.
GAMING
13. We used to own a Super Nintendo but we sold it. We have a Nintendo 64 upstairs and a Gamecube downstairs. I don't play all that much.
14. I just got a new free game from a friend. It's called America's Army. It's pretty sweet 'cause you play online with other ppl and the game's made by the US Army.
15. We also own a Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance. Although I never play any of them. Usually my brother is the one who plays video games, but he doesn't do it that much either.
HOBBIES
16. My number one hobby is filmmaking. I love to make films with friends, edit them, put it special effects, etc.
17. Photoshopping images is fun. Cloning, retouching, different effects, whatever. It's fun.
18. I make up CD covers for fun too. Just for made up bands - I think I might go into graphic design for college. Not sure tho.
PERSONAL LIFE
19. I am a Christian and I believe that salvation is through faith, not by works or anything we can do. Accepting God's grace and his gift for us is how we are saved. We cannot 'earn' Christ's love for us. For me that's one of the most important things to remember in the Christian walk.
20. My favorite book of the bible is Philippians. Read Phillipians 3:14, even if you've read it before. Go on, do it. It's a GREAT verse. I hope this encourages you as it has encouraged me.
Hopefully you learned a bit more about me, if you read the whole thing. Lol.

| I read the first five, skipped down t the end, then read the rest. I think it's most properly enjoyed this way because if you read to from start to finish, its just not as good.
