It was pretty cool, and I think I did on the day that our bass player was out, so it worked out nice.

That's a very cool technique!

Ever heard of Charlie Hunter?

Yup! that guitar has 8 strings!

I used to tune my guitar to drop d or any open tuning and with the gain up, and hum on my guitar (that is, put your mouth on your guitar somewhere and hum) within the key of whatever my tuning was in. Later I realized I could just do it by forming a chord and humming within the key of the chord. Try humming on various parts of the guitar. On my all-mahogany Carvin I found it worked best on the neck. You can get some really good ambient (read: Sigur Ros) tones from this.

Basically, making your strings sound by hitting/plucking/rubbing/etc. them with random materials or making them sympathetically vibrate or using some humming metal object near the pickups will do pretty interesting things.

Eddie Van Halen..."Pretty Woman"...he played the intro with a crushed beer can and by abusing the Floyd Rose system...at very high volume.

That hurts your gums. I tried it and decided I won't be playing guitar with my teeth.

I play 7-strings. I thought about going to 8-strings, but realized I really am not interested in doing away with the bass player.

what will work (if you have a stong fret hand) is holding the guitar up to your mouth and hammering-on like a madman. it gives the crowd the impression that you're playing with your teeth even though it's still all in your hand.

Actually, 7 feels so limited to me . . . I like the idea of 9. I even had plans for that, tuned to AEAEADGBE.

Reminds me of when I saw Steve Vai in concert. I was in front, no more than about 15 feet from him on stage. He did this thing where he ran his tongue along the strings over the pickups and you heard this harmonic sounding tone coming from his guitar. But I was so close, I was able to see him flick a switch just before he did that, which likely had way more to do with that sound than his tongue.

Ha ha, I do that!!!

Piezo through Chorus & reverb, strat Neck & Bridge clean through chorus & light delay..... MMMMMMMmmmmm

I hate floating bridges, but occasionally at the end of a song I want a chord to vibrato a little so I push my left hadn forward while leaning my right HARD on the top horn of the strat, pushing it towards me while supporting the bridge end with my hip.

Never broke a neck yet!!!

Hold the t.v. remote up to, and point it at your pickups (have some distortion going). Try adding some delay.

When playing, pull the high E string off the fretboard so it hits your neck pickup. Do this with a fresh string, as an old string is likely to break when you pull it further to get higher pitches. If I recall correctly, that's how the squeel in the MoP solo was done.
