If you're dead set on a Fender (which I wouldn't recommend) then go with the Deluxe Jazz. If not, then there are much better basses out there. I would say look into the G&L L2000. Great bass, sounds amazing.

Of those three, I would go for the fretless because fretless basses rock and sound awesome if you master them. Although, the only con I see is that sunburst will not be worth as much if you decide to sell it later on because it is the most popular color. My dad is having this problem- he has a 1976 fender he is thinking of selling (he's had it since he was like 14; still sounds great and it's in perfect condition). He can get about 14 or 15 hundred for it, but if he would have gotten a color that not as many people had bought, he could get at least sevaral hundred more for it. Still, I'd get the fretless

Resale price isn't going to be an issue for a MIM Fender, simply because there won't be any, regardless of what finish you get. They're cheap basses and there are thousands upon thousands of them around. They're not going to be collector's items. The fretless thing is cool, but make sure that you like the sound and that you can use it. They typically don't sound too great in a rock setting, but they're great for jazz or more mellow stuff.

i have a MIM Jazz Bass and after awhile the pickups started to just go south on me. they sounded decent at lower volumes but sounded like glorified farting at higher volumes...maybe it was just because they were getting older (i think my Jazz Bass is a 1996). For this reason though, I will also recommend the Deluxe Jazz. I replaced the stocked MIM pickups on my Jazz Bass with active EMGs and the tone is MUCH improved

the highway 1 is probably the "highest quality" of the three...but the other hardware (besides the electronics) seem to be the same as the deluxe. i'm not sure how the "pan" control works on the eluxe though as ithe deluxe apparently has an actual EQ...since my bass was a MIM it's just a dual master volume (one for each pickup).

I think the Music Man Sub is way cool. Is the Deluxe Jazz MIM or MIA? I have a MIM Deluxe Jazz V. Nice bass for the money, but I'll admit that the American version is nicer.

well.. i liked the fender basses.... especially jazzes... but actually i have used it for a month (my friend's American Jazz). but it wasn't as good as i thought it was going to be. No offence for fender owners.. but i just didn't like relatively short neck and the sound of the bass... it was just plain bass sound... but still cool though

i dunno.. but from that choices.. i would go for fretless... cuz i have warwick corvette fretless.. and it's just soooo much fun to play.. you simply don't have that buzzing sound when you slide and it always make me special...

i heard that warwick makes Rockbass series? or something.. like 450~500 range basses... you might want to check those out too...

I'd say go with an SX, but thats just me.

I'd take the Jazz over highway; for some reason I love Jazz basses...

The only Fender i've ever played is a Fender Squire. It's not bad, but there are better options out there, and if the Squire is anything to go by, Fender definetly isn't the greatest company in recent years. If there isn't a better option within the price range, just go with the fretless and practice nice and hard with the darn thing.

Just for the record, Squire is NOT anything to go by.
It's like judging Gibson off of Epi.

In comparison by Squires, Fenders, and SX's:

Squire < Fender MIM=SX < Fender MIJ < Fender MIA
