Fender Jazz

Hey...I am looking to trade in my 15 year old Ibanez SR500 for a bass without active pickups...have been looking at the Fender Jazz line....really like the slim neck....feels similar to the Ibanez.

My question: I know the American Series has the S-1 switch...but what are the main differences between the Standard, the Highway, the MIM etc....?

Might be a dumb question....thanks in advance!

I love Fender Jazz Basses.

The S-1 switch lets you wire the pickups in parallel, which I think gives a slightly beefier combined sound.

From comparing straight specs from Fender.com, here are the differences I find:
Neck: American series is graphite reinforced, the others are not
Fingerboard: American series offers maple fretboards and rolled fingerboard edges, the others do not
Pickups: are all different models
Electronics: Highway 1 series has a special tone circuit that doesn't add bass as tone is rolled off, American series has S-1 switch
Bridge: American series has a strings-thru-body bridge
Finish: Highway 1 has a satin finish
