Australian Cricket Team

This would be my team for the next test.

1 Mike Hussey
2 Justin Langer
3 Ricky Ponting
4 Simon katich
5 Michael Clarke
6 Shane Watson
7 Adam Gilchrist / Brad Haddin (depending on my mood)
8 Shane Warne
9 Brett Lee
10 Stuart McGill
11 Glen McGarth if fit (otherwise Shaun Tait)

Two spinners and Watson as the third choice seemer who can bat as well.

Hmm some interesting picks there, my choice would be this:

1. Katich
2. Langer
3. Ponting
4. Hussey
5. Clarke
6. Hodge (Or Shane Lee out of retirement)
7. Gillchrist (Perhaps Haddin... although that would be taking a lot of experience out of the team to take Gillchrist out, plus if he fires up he is a match winner, on the other hand he is out of form, and haddin is a good keeped and batsman.)
8. Warne
9. Lee
10. Tait (or McGill depending on the wicket)
11 McGrath

Its Steve Waugh saying Australia needs to play MacGill for the 5th test. We should listen to him... he was avery good player and an even better captain... one of the best Australia has seen. Why isn't he a selector?

Agreed, I have thought that we needed another spinner since the second test. Warne has been the only bowler getting a consistent number of wickets hauls.

We also need to start selecting players on form not just experience. Langer, Hayden and Gilchrist have all the experience in the world, but if they don’t fire they are not really any use.

There is no use thinking along the lines of ‘if he fires up he’s a match winner’ because any one of the players who play or could play for Australia are the same, they all could be match winners.

If the players have to fight tooth and nail the get or keep their spots on the team I believe that we will see an improvement in the overall form of the team.

my 2¢.

Very valid points.

I would just be a little concerned with getting rid of too much experience all at once. I think Hayden and Martyn need to be the first to go. They are both clearly out of form. I would give Langer some more time... he is actually not batting to badly at all.
