XXXChurch.com offers some great resources on this topic. They also offer a free program for both Mac and PC for accountability called X3Watch. A leader at a college group I help with recently struggled with this and I found that site to be quite helpful in talking to him.

What if it filters things I don't want it to filter? Ex. www.fanfiction.net will sometimes be filtered or a livejournal.

Agreed,
Any software can be 'got around'. Just takes time and the know-how.

Yeah, but that takes time and effort. From the sound of it, it would take quite a bit of work to "get around" this software, not just a quick bypass. And if you are working so hard to get around it, then obviously your heart is not where it needs to be for the software to be effective, so no use in using it anyways.

I found this

It looks like it would be really hard to get around.

The fact is that X3watch is really easy to bypass. Trust me... I know. As for a lot of these others, it would probably be a lot harder, but it doesn't matter. if I'm looking for porn, I'm going to find porn. The frying the internet access, however... that would make me think before looking. A lot. I don't guarantee it would stop me, but then again I guess it would stop me by force.

One guy I 'know' sent me a photo. My question to him was why was he so involved in his church and yet doing this stuff under cover? Never heard back from him since. Some folks, they know that this behaviour is not acceptable, but yet, because they are getting a high, they have not intentions of letting up. As long as the pastor does not know. Rubbish!

Okay, I know this is an old thread, but I'm sick of reading people being so defeatist, trying to poke holes in systems designed to help people.

I also don't buy that someone needs the Internet to find "anonymous advice" or interact with friends.

If your right eye causes you to stumble, better to pluck it out.

I guess my point was,
I believe we were never meant to keep ourselves accountable because we will fail. That's what the body of Christ is for. To encourage and keep us accountable.

If your only method for accountability is computer software, in my experience, it will eventually falter.

Plus, computer software doesn't care about you. It becomes a "my problem, only I can fix it." As long as the problem is consumed in darkness, it never comes to light to be dealt with. (1st Peter 2:9)

I hope that cleared my comment up, even though it was almost two years ago.

Crucifixion is rarely comfortable.
