habakkuk

How long, O Lord must I call for help
While You send down the fire for the next time
(no more water, no more flood
all that rises here is blood)
You said You're doing something new
But you did this to the pagans and our
People in the ancient days, so
Is this really new or was the Teacher right?

(Wait, let me scratch that--
The earth will be filled with the glory
Of the Lord like water covers the deep,
Like the ocean rises to flood the plains.)

The righteous live by faith, but as
For the rest of us (that's why we're
Being burned by this Babylonian fire, right?)
We will live by surviving until
This desert fig tree revives and it
Rains all day with the bounty of new wine.

I give to you my stamp of approval.

Although line four, stanza one seems a bit awkward, almost like you squeezed the syntax together to get a better rhythm. But this is very minor.

Duly noted, and fixed.

A much better paraphrase than the Message, that's for sure.

Habukkuk 2:14 was the purpose verse for my old youth group, as well as the sister youth group I work in. It's definitely one of the forerunners for inclusion in any tattoos I get.

May I challenge you to create a series called "minor prophets" where you summarize and put a spin on the stories & messages of the other "minor" prophets?

I've actually considered this, but Obadiah's kind of difficult to poeticize...I *have* done Ezekiel, though, and started a piece on Hosea, so who knows, you might see a series in the near future.

Gorgeous. I eagerly anticipate a series of minor prophet poems, if they are forthcoming.

I'd love to see Hosea. It's one of my favorite books.

"hosea" will be written and posted soon...i had a good idea for it the other day.

does anyone else get the allusion ("fire for the next time/no more water") in the first stanza?
