Read: 2 Kings 10-12
Know:
³I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me, as the Father
knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.² (Jn.10:11,14,15)
In the Spring of 1982, Miriam and I were invited to dinner with Billy
Graham. The event at the Sheraton Boston included the eighteen on our
executive committee and the Graham team. When the invitation arrived we did
not debate whether or not to attend. By 1982 Billy Graham had been world
known for five decades. He ranked among those rare individuals with a
household name. Meeting Billy personally was an exciting prospect.
On some future day everyone will meet Jesus Christ face to face. Our night
with Graham began by each of us being introduced to the evangelist. Although we felt that we knew Billy, he did not know us. When Jesus comes back it will be entirely different. Introductions will not be needed. Christ, who is God, has all knowledge. He knows his own by name. Christ died for people not principles. The Lord will not need to discover who we are.
Do:
The Christian life ought to be lived by preparing for the day when the Lord
Jesus comes back in bodily form. Faith connects us to the only man in the
history of the world who rose from the dead never to die again. The second
coming of Christ was a powerful motive for the first generation of
Christians. The passage of time can blunt the expectation of Christ¹s
return. The terrorists actions on September 11th brought the Day of
Judgment back into focus. The world needs someone in absolute authority who is absolutely trustworthy. That someone is God and God became man in Jesus Christ.
Ask:
Father, help me to put my faith into proper focus. |
