#1 | | - | I express my intense horror
i am amazed.
at.
my.
orchestra.
ok, here i am joining the string orchestra. 2nd day. they hand out the scores. first thought is: oh no. second thought is: ... third thought is: i might have to quit.
reason: the scores were too easy. i don't need to practice at all.
im not done with it.
then, we get them cellos at the back of the room.
they don't have enough full sizes, so i have to use a 3/4.
one of the bows don't even tighten at all.
the cellos completely suck.
yeah, so i go and sit down and one of the 5 cellist's cello is BATTERED UP
and..and...the WOOD IS PEELING OFF
and then there's a piece of TAPE STUCK TO IT next to the f-hole!
it is amazing.
and actually, a lot of wood got peeled off BATTERED OFF so it practically looked like a zombie cello that came out of the depths of it's case/coffin.
oh yeah, and that girl, who got the battered cello, she can't even play a C major 3 octave scale.
but actually, she just 'learned' it on Friday.
so the cellists also suck.
tis sad that i can't quit until sep. 8...
i'll just sit there.

| Wow. Sounds disturbing. I wouldn't want to be in that orchestra. |

| Then why don't you try to help them out instead of coming on here and whining like a pretentious jerk? |

I'm really glad that wasn't at me... but I still don't understand why such a serious reply. I'm new to this section of CGR so maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture, but just seeing this post, it seems harmless enough. Haven't you ever had an issue in your day/life that you just wanted to vent/laugh/fuss/whatever about? *shrugs* Just a thought.

| Complaining about music being too easy, the state of equipment, and the playing abilities of others seems very pretentious to me. I don't care if you're Yo Yo Ma, you can always stay in a program to make it better. Give the others inspiration. I'm not sure how scales are looked at in the string world, but playing a scale 3 octaves on a wind instrument is looked upon quite highly.
You can either take the easy way out and quit, or you can stay in it and strive to make it better. |

You can either take the easy way out and quit, or you can stay in it and strive to make it better. | you have a very good point. thank you.
i could try to help them out...i haven't made any cello friends, so it will take some work. but the easy part is looking for mistakes.
i guess i was just shocked and disappointed at the music (and instuments), so i was just sharing that, hoping someone would have some experiences like this.
i don't think i want to stay there for one year. i mean, i have to move on and get challenged and stuff.
how? i can't believe this moved to cpf... |
