#1 | | impecunious | CGR Scrabble I wonder if this will work.
I have a Scrabble board;
This is my idea-
A game is initiated between two CGRers, I will (or another person capable) draw letters (presumably pieces of paper from a container, a whole set of proper scrabble letters) and someone will take the first go, by using the letters that they have (I will post little scrabble pieces, this is the only set back of the game; Being able to see your opposition's letters) by referring to the numbers and letters next to the scrabble board above. For example, if you have drawn these letters (you must have seven letters):
*makes up a random word*
Indicate for them to go somewhere on the board with the alphanumeric references.
Eg.
Say the letter to use, then the reference: A (8,D), E (8,E), G (8,F), I (8,G), S (8,H) **note, first word must cross the middle square of the board. And I will adapt the board:
This is how the scoring works:
'A' was placed on a double letter square. The value of a letter is indicated down the bottom right of a scrabble piece. 'A' is worth 1 point, and doubled that is two. Add the rest of the numbers from that word, and that equals 7. The very first word put down on the board that crosses the star always scores double, so the final score for that word is 14.
Let's say the first person's name was John. I will update a scoreboard:
John used five letters. Players must have seven, so I draw an extra 5 for John. Then Shirley has her turn.
Shirley has to make a word from her letters. These are the letters she has drawn first: Shirley is permitted to make a word with any of her letters that join onto the word that John made. For example: H (5,E), O (6,E), S (7,E), And it joins on to the 'E' that John used in his word, to make the word 'hose'. The 'H' of hose is resting on a double word score (the red square that says '2W'). When this happens, we add the score of the word (7), and double it. This gives Shirley a score of 14. After every turn, the number of tiles that you have put on the board must be received back from the bucket of leters from which I am drawing. Example, John, after using 5 letters, an 'A', 'E', 'G', 'I', and 'S', he only has two letters left. Players MUST have seven. So I redraw five letters for John. John has: I now redraw five letters to replace those he used. John now has: He has these ready for his next move, after Shirley's first. Likewise for Shirley, she uses 3 pieces on the board. She will have 4 left from her initial draw, after her turn she will receive 3 more to replce the ones she used.
Players can pass, and/or swap a piece, but it costs them a turn. At the end of the game (when no player can make any more moves, due to having no more pieces, or no more places to put their letters) any letters that cannot be used have their value subtracted from the player's score.
One thing is, that the person who draws the letters (which most likely will be me...) must be perfectly honest. I am perfectly honest, and I really like playing Scrabble.
Who would like to play me?
*crosses fingers, hopes this works*
