I am a redneck through many generations because i come from a family rooted in agriculture.
Let them call you whatever they will. Let’s see those city boys survive without depending upon you farmers!

I am a Texan and a Southerner before I am an American. But even before the former two, I am a Christian.

The line about killing Yankees is a joke (mostly ).

The girl I am dating is from Chicago, Illinois—"the land of Lincoln"—by the way. So I don’t hate all Northerners.
I know, I just get prickled. I have a headache and am a bear right now. So, apologies.

Lol,
I am by no means a "city boy". I am actually a mixture of a redneck and a yankee, I just happened to be born in NY. But, it is funny. Most city boys would love to be on a farm, and a lot of my farm boy cousins are envious of my "big city".

I'm no civil war expert, but if you support the south, you support the main proponent of slavery.

Now I'm going to imagine you as looking like Colonel Sanders sitting in a rocking chair enjoying the sunny antebellum afternoon.

I have deep southern roots, but I am not proud of it at all. I feel like a northeasterner stuck in the body of a southerner. My great uncles started Dixie County, and were high up in a certain group that I am appalled by.

The way I see it, the south's past isn't pretty, and I can't wait to get the hell out of here.

Anyhow. I have never had problems with them thinking I am a Yankee. I mess around with them, and tell them they are slobs, and they tell me I am fancy. I love them, but we aren't the same, and we both know it. We don't care either.
I proudly say ya'll. It sounds better than youse guys.

There was a lot more to the Civil War than slaves(common misconception). My family fought and died for the land of Dixie but had no slaves. In fact they were subsistance farmers(there were slaves that were better off than them) Alot of the war stems from taxes and rivals. And don't forget that the north was not the land of the free. If you were a free black in the North you were often time treated just as bad. Oh, and Northern owned slaves too.

Heya,

I don't understand it when southern people feel insulted when other people think they are a "yankee". I'd be more insulted if I was called a redneck, than a yankee.

Then again when it really comes down to it, I couldn't care less what strangers think of me.

I'm still trying to figure out how I managed to pick that up, being not only not a Southerner, but not an American by any stretch of the imagination...

I blame CGR.

I know that there was more than the war than slaves. And I know the north wasn't the poster-child of an ideal situation for Blacks. Our contry should be colelctively ashamed of our treatment of African-Americans pre-deseg.

I don't know. I just have a strong disdain for the south, and when I see people parading around a confederate flag it makes me pretty angry.

I may support the "main proponent of slavery," but that doesn't mean I have to support slavery itself.

Lee and Jackson, and most of the other great Southern generals owned no slaves.

I support the South in the War of Northern Aggression because the states had the legal right to secede. I disagree with the institution of slavery as it was made manifest in the US at that time. States' rights were the issue; slavery just happened to be the sub-issue "straw that broke the camel's back."
