Rules:

Hey Simo.

I heard that school students ride Kangaroos to school over in Australia? Is this true, because I would love to.

(Yes I know I am in Australia but I am just trying to start it off )

Excellent Question Adam.

Lets start with some general information:

Kangaroos can stand more than 2 m (7 ft) tall, be 2.9 m (9.6 ft) long, including its tail, and weigh nearly 80 kg (200 lb).
It can leap 1.5 m (5 ft) when moving at a slow pace and more than 9 m (30 ft) at high speeds. For short distances a gray kangaroo can travel at 48 km/h (30 mph).

A picture is attached.

I would say anybody who attempted to ride on that would fall staright off, anybody who actually managed to stay on travelling at those speeds either is really stupid or has a death wish.

Besides it is fairly common for Kangaroos to attack dogs, and people.

When the first settlers arrived in Australia, they reported no domesticated animal of any kind among the indigenious Australians. Even the indigenious Australians never rode Kangaroos.

We do have cars in Australia and busses which are much more comfortable and have radios!

Safe to say this Myth is BUSTED!

Kangaroos are wild and not domesticated

You will have to come up with a myth that needs an explosion.

I've heard over 50 people die each year in Australia from Koalas dropping on their heads. True?

Ahh. This is actually a derivative of the myth of drop bears. Koalas are fine, except they can use their claws to give nasty scratches when they are cranky (which is most of the time despite being stoned on euclyptus leaves all the time)

Now the real myth is that drop bears are a type of bigger meaner koala bear. They then drop from trees and grab you by the head and attack you! Though if they miss you they are rumoured to be harmless when on the ground.

So lets see if this is true!

The first attachment is an artist impression of one.

Now if this was true you'd expect to see many stories in the Aussie papers about this and trust me their aren't.

Also I have walked under many eucupltyus trees and never had a drop bear fall on me.

The truth is that this is a story that Australians around the world use to trick their gullible foreign friends and to scare them when walking under euclyptus trees.

Drop bears don't exist and don't kill anyone. Koalas do give nasty scratches but are perfectly fine.

Check out:

for more info.

"Stories of drop bears told to unsuspecting foreign visitors illustrate Australian deadpan humour. It is suggested that doing ridiculous things like having forks in their hair will deter the beasts."

Ooh... very interesting, especially since the original question was a complete joke.
