Things You Miss In Music

What are some things that you miss in music? For me, I miss the day of simple, innovative hip hop beats. The type that the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and N.W.A used. Today's over produced bass heavy beats just don't compare.

Swing. Big band jazz. When it was cool to wear a zoot suit and brass instruments and saxophones were standard issue for a band.

Ah, I miss that too. I also miss the day of good small band jazz. The only good small band I've heard lately is Bablicon (thanks to thelitguy).

I miss EARLY chicago's horn arrangements in their songs (ala 25 or 6 to 4)

I also miss just the pure grit in some of the music (ala early Doobie Brothers, CCR)

then I miss the musical quality (they did stuff more than just a 6-5-1-4 progression) and of course the guitar solos (Cream, Derek & The Dominoes, Clapton as a whole, Beatles{go 7th chords!}, Fleetwood Mac, America{acoustic rock gods})

and it seems like the soul of most modern music is gone, like it is all comercial, does anyone else agree??

I miss the complex melodies and harmonization in pop/rock music a la The Beach Boys and The Beatles. Backstreet Boys and the like just don't cut it.

Most people who are saying they miss stuff probably weren't even around to see it in the first place.

That aside, I don't know if I miss anything.

Progressive tendencies in mainstream, successful rock bands.

I'm talking bands like Kansas, Boston, Rush, Pretty Things, etc.
I'm not a big prog fan, but I love these 10 minute masterpieces with 40 instantly recognizable riffs in every song, harmonized lead lines and vocals, blah blah. What a great era.

Get some death metal, bands like Wormed have anywhere up to 60-70 riffs in a 4 minute song. No harmonies though.
