There is an easy answer to this : Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. Can you play a violent game " heartily, as to the Lord"? If you can find a way to do that, then play the game but I personally don't see how that is possible.

Absolutely not. Scientific studies show that it makes kids (every single one of them) go out and shoot others. Columbine? Evidence puts the blame solely on violent video games....particularly that Nintendo 64 Goldeneye 007 game that my parents wouldn't let me buy.

Even worse, violence such as at Pearl Harbor in 1941 can result in awful movies.

They're just a form of entertainment. As long as they don't provoke things like lust (which is becoming an issue in video games... just try and find a normal beach volleyball game...), then it should be ok.To deny things like video games would be to deny things like TV, Movies, and computer altogether. Can you watch TV as unto the Lord? Can you go see a movie as unto the Lord? You'd also have difficulty using the bathroom as it'd be interesting to hear how people do that as unto the Lord. The Bible does not say that we can't have fun, that we can't take a break every now and then and have some leisure time.

It may be fun but is it a wise way to spend your time, I wouldn't say so. I think tv, computer games and alike are designed to distract you from the things that we should really be doing.

Like posting on a message board?

If you really believe that, then your life must really suck. You probably take no time to relax or to do anything "fun". Heck, playing a sport would have the same effect.

Well I come to this message board to talk about God and His word, which is not a waste of time.

I see your point. I do play sports but I think shooting people on computer games is a bit different

Why? Are they real people with real feelings? Are they "dead" or "alive" in any way? Are you really taking a life in a video game? I don't really think so, seeing as you need to merely restart the game and they're alive again.

I choose not to, frankly because violence does not entertain me.

Besides, video games are waste of time and make our children obese due to a lack of real activity. The streets of my neighborhood are deserted in the summer. All the kids are inside getting sucked into Halo 2 and anime, eating Twinkies and "Fruit"-by-the-Foot, not being outside playing tag or war or house or sports like normal kids.

Sorry it's just a little irk of mine. There will be no video games in my household. In the summer I'll kick my kids out of the house until sundown, like my parents did to me. I thank God for that .

Ah, now you bring up an important point. As with many things, games can become addictive. This is an important danger to avoid, especially with something that leaves you sitting on your butt all day.

Is that right? Did you know that can play games and still do other things? It seems to me you are talking about people who do nothing but gaming.

Another thing is what is defined as violence in a game?

Chess, Risk, and many other games are 'violent' games.

Also many board and card games are mindless (some are not) and have almost no 'activity' at all. Will board games be taboo in your house?
