Akira Kurosawa

I've been watching more and more films from this guy, and have decided he is one heck of a brilliant director.

A few of my favorites from him are the Seven Samuari, Dreams, and High and Low.

Anyone else enjoy his films?

Me. And yes, he's brilliant.

I like Seven Samurai and High & Low too. Sanjuro and Yojimbo and Rashomon are classics as well. Derzu Uzala is also great too. I saw High & Low about a week ago, enjoyed it a lot. But it felt weird watching Mifune not playing a samurai.

But the film that most people argue is his best is Ikiru. But I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy yet!

Kurosawa is definitely one of the greatest directors ever. And, btw, check out the films of Yasujiro Ozu. He was active around the same time as Kurosawa, and they're probably the best Japanese filmmakers. The few I've seen from Ozu I enjoyed a lot. His films are more paced, more humble and simple, but so freaking great.

The timing of this thread is great.

Yesterday I had to give a giant presentation on Akira Kurosawa's style in class (we each chose a differing director).

My favorites of his are Rashomon, Ran, and The Hidden Fortress.

Seven Samurai and Yojimbo are the only two I've seen but they were both incredible films.
