"Jesus is my Homeboy"

Anyone else find these shirts a little disrepectful? They bug me because they were started to make fun of Christianity and now lots of Christians (Unknowingly?) buy them. I don't know if that's a good thing, but it seems to me equating God to your "homeboy" isn't right.

I find it extremely disrespectful. Jesus is not my homeboy. Sean is.

One regular poster actually has it as their avatar. A picture with Jesus and a stereo(?) and the words 'Jesus is my Homeboy'.

This leads me to ask... What does it actually mean?

Why does everyone find them so disturbing?

home·boy
n. Slang
A male friend or acquaintance from one's neighborhood or hometown.

Jesus might fit that description, though at a higher level. Homeboy is usually used to mean "friend". It's supposed to be slightly humorous. Besides, I'm sure more non-Christians can relate to "homeboy" better than "savior". Maybe I'm just crazy, but I don't mind it.

Dictionary definitions of slang words are just... wrong.

Sorry, as a grammar / vocabulary nut, it just cracks me up.
