| I think that there is nothing much wrong with the actual message on the shirts, but the fact that they are meant to make fun of Jesus could confuse someone when they see you sporting the shirt as a christian. |

When you support "Jesus is My Homeboy" t-shirts, you're supporting people that have no respect for our Lord and Saviour.
| Hmm. Good point. Change of plans. I won't buy one. I'll have to just make my own. Quote: |

| And this is where I disagree. Jesus was the one who taught us to pray by saying, "Our Father" which was a culture shock at the time (and part of the reason why the Pharaisees hated him). Paul took that one step further in Romans 8:15, when he used the word, "Abba", which is a term of endearment between children and their father. "Homeboy" is nothing more than a modern rendering of more or less the same vernacular; the concept is the same. Quote: |
some people have more respect for the President...than for Christ.
| I understand your point, but at the same time, the President isn't your best friend. He doesn't know you, he doesn't care what goes on in your life, he doesn't even really care if you live or die. You respect him because you have to. What I see is that the Church is beginning to swing back in the other direction. In 1970s, the concept of a loving God started to become mainstream in Christendom, and from that, it ran into a point where people treated God with no respect; they would continue on in sin, or simply cursor over it since, hey, man, God is Love. In the late 1990s, there began to arise a backlash against this flippancy, as there was a renewed holiness drive (which was needed), but now I fear that it's going back the other way; that people are focusing so much on God's holiness that they're losing view of the loving relationship that He intended us to have with Him (I'm not talking about you, it's a general observation of a trend that I've noticed over the past six or seven years). Consequently, if this trend is to continue, then Christianity will once again become little more than a obligatory duty, which I find to be dogmatic and insulting: "Okay, Jesus - I'll serve You because You deserve it, and I owe You a huge favour" rather than serving Him naturally out of love.
I don't find the use of the adjective "Homeboy" as being flippant or disrespectful. What I find disrespectful is when I say things like, "Lord, tomorrow's going to be different. I'm going to make some serious changes in my life! Come hail or high water, Lord, my life is going to change!" And then I fail to follow through. "Homeboy" is just a term of familiarity. What counts is how much of my life I let Him have, and how much I hold back for myself.

| Maybe we should stop putting Jesus on t-shirts and start putting Him in our lives

| I see anything wrong with putting a little bit more humanity into christianity, and I don't have a problem the term "homeboy" seeing as how it does mean friend.........but.
Whenever the world eagerly accepts something related to Christ...I start to smell something fishy. Thinking Jesus is "cool" has never been the world's MO. MTV least of all....Not to mention the fact the shirt is sold in Spencers (shudders). More of my lost friends have these shirts than my christian friends, and I'd venture to say it's probably like that everywhere from what I've seen. So I think the shirt was made by the lost, for the lost, to poke fun at Christ. Sort of like putting the purple robe on Christ.
In short, Christ did deserve a purple robe and Christ IS our homeboy. But the way the world does it was and is a mockery; and Christians who join in are unknowingly following suit.
(btw, I was simply making a comparision between the two. so please don't go overboard on me)

| btw: you're supposed to be familiar with Christ and all that but not so familiar that you start taking him for granted or degrading him

| I'm curious, what if I had a shirt that said "Jesus is my boyfriend"? That would be okay too, right? |
