Internationally acclaimed UK artist DJ Andy Hunter released the six-song EP Life on May 24, to critical acclaim. His follow-up to 2002's full-length album Exodus is a new collection of his signature ambient sound, supported by a greater use of guitars and live stringed instrumentation, and offers sonic images of Christ bringing new life to barren wasteland.
"For me, being a DJ isn't about being trendy. It's an act of worship and inviting people to enter in. The focus is on God. It's about leading people into new places with music they haven't heard before," Hunter says.
How the critics are responding:
"Hunter's relevance behind the turntables and programming co-exists with an unhindered ministry platform…. All of these clever and inspiring ideas translate to an EP that's not just some tease until the next album, but rather an essential addition to any dance/electronica collection." – Christian Music Today
"This is probably the most important dance release in the Christian scene in years. The songwriting is amazing, the production is overall right where we all need it to be, and it is a CD that everyone should be able to find something they enjoy listening to." – Tastyfresh.com
"There are always names behind summer blockbuster movies no one ever notices. But such obscurity should change for Andy Hunter as he unveils his new hit maker, Life. The long-awaited project from the British DJ is a six-track collection of powerfully constructed rhythms wrapped around strong melodic hooks. A liberal use of guitar and live strings freshly decorate Hunter's signature sound on the project." – Songtouch.com
"From the first beat to the last, it's a wild ride of electronic beats, synthesizer, and computerized vocals… This album is a must for any fan of dance/techno music." – JesusFreakHideout.com
"This release is the best Christian dance CD to date. The music is superb, and the live instrumentation, strong melodies and rock 'n' roll influence all work together to take Andy's music to the next level." – DanceChapel.com
Also coming up for Hunter is his first main stage appearance at Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell, IL on Friday, July 1, closing the night out for Skillet and tobyMac. In addition, he has been invited to teach two seminars on Saturday afternoon, "How to DJ" and "Lead Worship as a DJ," as well as to lead the music in the Dance Club later that night.
Hunter's breakout success came with 2002's Exodus, which produced major film, TV and video game placements for his songs "Go" and "The Wonders of You" on The Matrix: Reloaded (trailer), the movie The Italian Job, ABC's "Alias" and the "Black Hawk Down" video game, among others. Hunter recently performed at the Microsoft-sponsored opening night party for Midem in Cannes, France, and he was featured at the "Digital Entertainment Anywhere" Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 launch event in Los Angeles, hosted by Microsoft Corp. chairman and chief software architect Bill Gates.
