First off I dont suggest learning Dime's Leads cause he has so since of melody. Sure he can play fast but that says nothing for his solo writing abilitys. I suggest checking out Hangnail's First album. The solos are super fast and the riffs are hard so if you are looking for something to push you to grow check it out. They have most of the tabs up for the album at (
www.hangnailmusic.com) on top of being a better sorce of creative solos they also have a lot better lyrical messages the Pantera and songs like "Herecy". To increase speed get a pattern and play it over and over again.
Example:
Hangnail "Friendly Advice"
Solo Section 1 (play all x4)
Line A
E:---------------------------------------------------
B:--------5-6-5-6-5-----8-6-5----------5--------
G:--7-7---------------7----------7-5-7-----7-5--
Line B
E:---------------------------------------------------
B:-------5-6-5-6-5------8-6-5-------------------
G:-7-7----------------7----------7-5-7-----------
This is essential the same riff but at the end of the frist line (which I have lables line A) Nick Radovanovic adds the G:--7--5-- to connect the first and second lines or to connect line A to line B.
To learn the riff start playing it slowly and accuretly then gradualy speed up mantaining accuracy untell you can play the entire riff flawlessly. You will find that once you have learnd one riff others will come easier.
Hangnail - Friendly Advice
Intro Riff
D:---0-0-7-0-8-7-0-7-0-(10)-8-7-8-7-5-7-(x2)---0-0-7-0-8-7-0-7-0-
This is an extremly tricky riff to pull off because of the open notes and the ticky notes to get to like the 10, then on top of that is the finger tripping -8-7-8-7-5-7- part. But this like the other is only a matter of speeding up slowly will making sure that you maintain accuracy or else it will sound that noise.
After that you can work on other stuff. First though I suggest getting a guitar teacher and learning the blues even if you hate them cause it will add soul to your technique and give you the basics for mad solos. If you have any more questions e-mail me at
