The Broken-Heart Mender

"The Broken-Heart Mender"
By: Zach Wood
Psalm 147:1, 3
(1) Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!
(3) He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

All of us have experienced some kind of heart-breaking time in our lives. Perhaps you are in the midst of a heart-breaking situation right now and you're longing to find healing. There's no better place to long for than in the arms of God. That may sound like a "church answer", but it's quite true. God knows that we have heart breaks now and then. Some of them can be minor and some can be major. Maybe you're experiencing the heart-break of a troubled relationship with a friend, fiancée or spouse. Perhaps a good friend or family member has just passed away and you're feeling alone. Many situations can leave us feeling broken and in pain.

I truly feel led to write this devotional this week because I think there are possible some people reading this that are going through a heart-break. Heart-breaks can last a few days, weeks, months or even years. It depends on what has happened and the circumstances surrounding the situation. Whatever it might be, the heart-break is painful and it leaves a hole inside. I've had many broken hearts throughout my lifetime. Some of those heart-breaks were small, though some were big and still bring pain when I think of them. It's a part of life and there's no way around it. We all get our hearts broken at some point in time.

The good news is that we have an awesome broken-heart mender. No doctor in the entire universe can heal your heart but the Great Physician who created each and every one of us. He is our Father and He feels our pain when we feel it. He hates to see us in such pain, but he knows that the pain will form us into better people. We can't always understand the situations were in and I'm not even going to try and explain why He does what He does in our painful situations. All I know is that He knows what He's doing and I accept that. I'm reminded in these situations to think about the Apostle Paul and all the heartache he went through serving the Lord. He dealt with his own broken-heart situations, but He still found ways to praise God through his situations. That's exactly what we need to be doing in our own broken-heart situations. We can still praise God just as Paul did, no matter what we're going through. Instead of focusing on the pain and the frustration the circumstances bring, we can shift our focus to the fact that He loves us, is molding us and will guide us through the heartaches.

I have talked with so many friends and family who have kept a positive attitude through so many heart-breaking situations. It's an example to me that God is working in their lives and making them stronger. We can be that strong with Christ as well. If we rely on Him, stay in His Word and pray with belief and certainty that He's with us, we can persevere through anything! He is the broken-heart mender and there's no broken-heart He can't mend. Isn't that a wonderful feeling? Trust Him today with your broken-heart and He will mend it back together in His timing. Don't expect it to be quickly every time, but know that He will heal you and restore you.
