interesting end to the season... a lot of mixed emotions. but at least tony didn't die like i expected. although i guess that makes it less realistic. i'll bet that woman they pardoned will be back as the bad guy in season 5. i'm glad the current REAL president didn't actually die, or else i think the country would be in a lot more trouble with the guy running it (*mindblank* i can't think of his name).

did anyone else feel that the end of the missle threat seemed really weak and kind of took a huge build-up (like 22 episodes) and fizzled it out? and the end after that seemed REALLY "tacked-on" if you know what i mean. I never did like the whole Chinese plot. It led to a lot of deception, lies, and corruption from Jack, Palmer, CTU, and everyone we learned to know and trust were "good guys." so I guess I could just be upset that that's how they chose to end the show too.

overall, it was a good season though. looking forward to next year. (now i can actually do school on monday nights)

First, a non-spoiler comment:

Is it just me, or was the guy playing the Vice President/President trying way too hard to channel Christopher Walken?

And now, SPOILERS!!!1!

I have mixed feelings about the finale. On one hand, I almost wish they'd actually decided to kill off Jack and bring in a new frontman for season five. If they don't do something huge to freshen things up real quick, the series is going to fizzle out in a hurry. On the other hand, though, the way they handled things leaves some optimism that maybe they will cut Jack out of the picture for next season...but I really doubt it, especially the way they teased it at the end. Meh.

I do also think that the ending to the nuclear missile threat was ridiculously anticlimactic and fairly boring. Really poor writing there.

The Chinese subplot.... Hmm. On one hand, it seemed more like a distraction from the main plot than anything else, and a convenient way to make the ending all emotional and crap via Jack's dramatic exit. On the other hand, I kind of like it just for the fact that it demonstrates some sense of realism in that CTU's wrecklessness doesn't come without its consequences. At least they're not pulling insane crap like performing a kidnapping on Chinese soil and getting away with it completely clean-handed.

*Spoilers*
I was also disappointed with the ending to the missle crisis. They spend most of the season trying to hunt down Marwan and how does he get killed? By forcing Jack to let go so he can splatter on the ground. And the warhead being blasted by military jets (which almost seemed to come out of nowhere) was really anti-climatic.

I was hoping that after the Chinese officials came by CTU they would push the whole subplot aside and maybe use that to launch into the next season, but I actually kind of like how it turned out forcing Jack to fake his death and supposedly hop the border. Although, the teaser that played during the credits left no doubt that he would work his way back into season 5 somehow.

And seeing as this is my first time to almost consistently watch a whole season of 24,perhaps this happens every season but there seemed to be a lot of plot holes left at the end. For one thing, they never went back to check on President Keeler's condition after he was taken to the hospital. I guess we're suppose to assume that Logan stays in charge for a while.

And whatever happened to that guy who attacked Air Force 1 and then just flew away?

Or that kid CTU traded for Jack who was never heard from again?

Or even those terrorists who initially launched the missle from Iowa?

Plot fodder for another season I suppose.

But overall, I enjoyed the finale and will be anticipating the coming of next January.
