Looking for good keyboard

I play the guitar, but I have some experience with keyboards. I'm looking for one under $400. I just don't want to go out and buy the cheapest junk out there. I want something thats good, has lots of sounds and affordable. Can someone tell me any keyboards they know of for that price? Thanks!

I don't know a whole lot about about keyboards, but I do know that your chances of finding something really good in that price range is fairly slim. From what I understand, good starter keyboards generally go for 1000$+

This is how i would go about it before choosing a keyboard -

1. checkout and really play some at a few pawnshops.
2. check out retail stores such as Radio Shack 'for example.
3. check out online stores such as Musician's Friend [Casio WK-3500] or American Musical Supply 'for example.
4. go to the next large or small guitar show in your area.
5. a friend may know a friend that wants to sell theirs.
6. postings at grocery, convienent stores or music stores.
7. take my time in choosing/or get one online fast?

hope it helps - i bought a $350 keyboard at a large guitar show for $60 and i am very pleased with it. i took probably 6-8 months to wait until the best deal came along. ofcourse i am a guitar player/singer first.

I got a yamaha dgx-200 a few years ago. They have a newer model for the same price now, which i assume is about the same thing. But professional keyboards start at about 1200 new. I really like my $300 yamaha, and it has a really good grand piano voice.

The Yamaha PSR2100 is a great machine. You can also use it for digital recording. I bought mine for $1200 but I think they're getting cheaper now. If you're looking for a portable keyboard then this is good. The drums, sounds are really ok and are in stereo. We connected it to our board and it was..."Man! That sounds great!"

If you're not opposed to buying used you can find some good prices on non-current models that all the real keyboard players are replacing with the latest greatest models. A while back I got a 76-key Korg Trinity Pro fand a 61-key Korg X5, both used, for a fraction of new price. The Trinity (top Korg model before the Tritons came out) is pretty amazing as far as this guitar player can tell, and while the X5 is a little more difficult to use, it sounds way better than most anything you can buy new for 2x the price.

I'm working towards getting the 88-key Korg triton studio, but that's a bit over 400

Pricing obviously ranges depending on what you want and what for. My dad has been using Musician's Friend since he was my age. I was just given a sweet keyboard. It was two hundred more than what you said but at least not a thou. MF does have the best prices for quality stuff though.
