| Japanese Christian Music Hey all. Konnichiwa minna san.
I just returned to the USA after 2 years in Japan teaching in an international Christian school. It's not easy to find, but contemporary worship music does exist in Japan in Japanese. I lived in Nagoya and found a few cds at Life Center, a Christian bookstore in Sakae area. Vineyard Japan has at least 2 cds that include Japanese versions of Vineyard worship songs as well as original songs by Japanese Christians. The two that I have are "kokoro ni kawa ga nagareru" and "hikari no shizuku." You may be able to order them from this website: www.vcfkani.org.
I also have a cd by a guy called Noboru Morishige. He is Japanese but lives in Hawaii. Everything on the cd I have is in Japanese.
My Japanese collection is completed by a cd called "Sing to the Lord of the Harvest" by Mariko Sasaki. This cd is all Christmas music, has more of a Gospel feel to it, and is a mix of English and Japanese.
I no longer have the web address, but the International Christian Bible Church in Gamagori City has some cds that are very contemporary.
As far as the real cutting edge stuff, I don't know of any.
I hope this helps some of you. |

| Tokyo city church is real into music, they translate Hillsong into Japanese and they do a pretty good job of it, It's not the sort of the stuff you'd hear on the radio here on in the states but it's awesome praise and worship. i have their latest cd... somewhere

| At the Tower Records at Parco (paruko) in Sakae, there are many Christian CDs. Unfortunately, there aren't any in Japanese, at least as far as I know, but there are many many Christian CDs there. I actually got the Newsboys Step Up To The Microphone for ¥290 on clearance. Anybody in Aichi should check out the store at least once. It's right beside the subway station Yaba-Cho, which is on the Meijo line (go to Kanayama and get on the subway).

| Went to a delirious? concert the otherday...Like I said in my journal, I told them they ought to go to Japan. I honestly think the Japanese would like their music....
Can't help but wonder if he (the guy I was talking to) still remembers me though...

| Talked to Bleach at Creation, and they said there actually is talk about doing a tour in Japan. That would rock. Tooth and Nail released their CD, Again, For the First Time, along with some other T&N artists's CDs (Supertones comes to mind). Since then, there's been talk about doing a tour in Japan, but it's not definite.
Also, Pillar says they really would love to do a international tour, including Japan, in 2004. Again, nothing definite though.

| sugoi ne I am a missionary candidate planning to go to southern Japan next September. My main ministry will be TEFL, however, I am planning to start a CCM band with a Japanese friend of mine. We recorded Shout to the Lord (in English) the last time I was there, and the local radio station played it. My friend feels that an all Japanese Christian band would not be successful in Japan, but a mixed Japanese/American band would be. I suppose that remains to be seen. I am interested in the cultural aspects of worship music in Japan, and I will be looking up some of the music suggested here. |

Being an American will most definitely make the band more appealing, even though you would be labeled as "Christians" every time you're mentioned.
