Hey everyone, I am a Japanese guy living in the breadbasket of America... lol To be more specific, Minnesota. I know there isn't much Christian music in Japan, but that is easily explained if you know how Japanese people think. To them religion is beginning to become something that doesn't matter. Even though many elderly people are deeply rooted in Buddism, the younger generation is slowly becoming sucked into a "no-religion" life... It is sad to see how they are blind to the truth that could save them eternally. An example of how little effect Christianity has had on the Japanese culture, there is a new popular group called the "Gospellers". Alas, they are not singers of the gospel, but only singers of that style. Using the style of many part harmonies of an accapella choir, they are winning over many fans. To them, "Gospel music" is only a style of music as "Jazz" and "Blues" is to us. But it is also a good thing that the young Japanese generation has no religion. Christianity can be easily instituted without having to contend with a different religion that had been established earlier. But that's only what I think. Saying things like that are easy, but actually doing them is the difficult part.

I'm not the best translator or Japanese composer, but I'll try to help any way I can!

Peace and Love ~ Kijanu <))><
Tell me about it - I work with young people here in Japan! Anyways, I have heard of some people being brought to Christ through Gospel music. Some churches offer Gospel choirs and advertise them, so people can join in. It's a way of getting people into a church who would have no other reason for going. Of course they aren't all interested in the words, but some are, so it is something that I (cautiously) approve of!

Interesting to see that all of the music stores I've looked in this week have SonicFlood, Delirious etc, but no sight of a "Christian" section - they are just on the shelf next to Sonic Youth/Del Amitri.

Thumbs up Christian Music in Indonesia

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Him...

Hi, I'm currently studying in Melbourne - Aust. but actually I come from Indonesia... So yeah... I just had registered after reading all of these messages... I wanna add (or rather share) about Christian music back in my country...
There are heaps of artist and songs in Indonesia... The style is simillar to Hillsongs in here, and other contemporer bands... Mainly we sing in our own language (Indonesian).. but it doesn't mean that we don't sing/have English song..
Giving My Best , one of the most influential group in Indonesia for example, write songs in Indo as well as in English.. such as "Lord, I Surrender", "Center of my Joy".. etc..
Sidney Mohede is the lead singer of the group.. and he's producing hiw own solo album as well.. you can check him out at http://www.sidneymohede.com
They are great... (both in talent and spirit)..
Franky Sihombing is another great artist and preacher.... Edo Kondolongit, , Ruth Sahanaya , aslo great.....

There are still many other great artists in my Country... and we all sing praises only FOR HIM...

In Melbourne, I also attend Indonesian Church, mainly we sing English song (such as Hillsongs, Hossana, Vineyard, etc) as well as Indonesian Song...

Hope I don't write too much..... Weell.. I just wanna share the artists from my Country.. and hope they can be a blessing for you guys as they have for us here........

Thankssss... GOD Blesss....

It's good to hear that Christian music is flourishing in Indonesia despite the troubles there!

Question Kang Da Hyun

Does anyone know anything about her? I've just seen a flyer for her debut single (in Japan at least, don't know if she's already known in Korea) called "Mother Sky."

I'm assuming she's Christian, as she's also on a poster for some Christian music concert, and there is a cross on her flyer. I checked out the song (a clip) on a Japanese music site, and can report that it was quite contemporary, in the regular J-Pop/K-Pop style. Couldn't tell you what the words said, apart from the brief English part...

I'll post the link to the audio/video clip in a minute.

If you know anything, please let me know! Thanks.

A recent top ten hit here in Japan featured the words...

God is watching us,
God is holding our grief

(going from memory...)

That's mainstream pop, not Christian music. Whatever next?

*up*

Do you ever get that feeling like you're talking to yourself?

Anyways, played some Delirious to some people. They were impressed. We need to reach out to more young people with a musical style they appreciate.

Most of the time... (re:talking to yourself)

Deliriou5 is my overall favourite Christian Band. Have all of em albums except King of Fools. Still havent paid my debts yet...

We have been doing alot of different songs in church recently. Worship Together is still our biggest influence with songs from Matt Redman, Tim Hughes, Chris Tomlin, and others. We sing Hillsongs too occasionally.

Hey
I havent heard of any christian music in Japanese but i will keep looking. American music is pretty pop here so all the japanese christians that i know just listen to that. Also another thing that was pretty cool. I was walking through a market in Hong Kong a couple weeks ago and I went into this furniture store with my parents and I heard Hillsong playing. It was pretty cool. It just shows what God is doing in the world today!

Hi, OldStratGuy! How's my Kababayan?

I'm not that familiar with Filipino CCM, but I believe PAPURI has come up with some. And of course, there's Gary V. who records CCM every now and then.
