Well, the statement "every rule has exceptions, except this one" is invalid, because "except this one" is an exception (thus making it self-contradicting). That would leave the rule simply as "every rule has exceptions", except now it's not true, because the rule itself does not have an exception. Now it's breaking its own rule. Therefore, we must completely disregard it because it can never be true.
