I like this CD a lot. It's a far cry from everything else I've heard from PFR (Goldie's Last Day and a couple songs off the CD they put out a few years after this one). This is definitely more rockin'. If I recall right, it came out as "grunge" was cresting, and that influence is apparent. The first two songs reflect this the most, though musically I think they're two of the weaker songs.

"Line of Love" is probably my favorite song on the disc. It's kinda got some cheesy lyrics, but I love the guitar part--just a catchy pop-rock tune. "Them" is another great song...eerie guitar effects set the backdrop for a lilting vocal line and a start-stop bass line and tom-heavy drum part. The lyrics are pretty good, too. It's a song about purity in absorbing media. They're a bit on the paranoid-reactionary side, though.

Anyway, I give it an 8. I bought the CD back when it came out, and I still listen to it today, which means it's pretty good.

I really like most everything I've heard from PFR. This CD is, of course, no exception. As pointed out above, its more hard rock than there other matrial. They pull it off just fine. Check out the chorus guitar riff on Daddy Never Cried. Its identical to the main riff in Weezer's "Hash Pipe" wich came 4 YEARS LATER.
