PAPER
by Emma Catherine Tucker

Paper is a substance to touch
- - -one to physically feel
And when you've got a pen in your hand
- - -you've got an awesome deal!
Papers and pen enable you
- - -to write some awesome stuff
Everything goes, songs and poems
- - -even some mindless fluff!
Ready, set, go! Write something now!
- - -And when you are done, take your bow.

lacey curtains
fringe minds
of the fringe minded
mindless-lace conquers
the priorites of she
is lacey in the finest
sense a confusedness
about her that is
normal despite its strangeness
nay, in its strangeness
that envelopes her
lacey generation
fancy-frilly delicate
fly away on
air lightness that flows
through the patterned
holes in your mind
My confused, delicate girl
try not to think.

DARKNESS
by Emma Catherine Tucker

Light shining through the world,
warming the earth in its rays.
Earth, basking in celestial glow,
silently loves the shiny day.

Then the dragon of the sky,
resting on a moon to stay,
Sees the sunshine in the air
And takes the sunshine's glow away.

He reaches out his mighty jaw
Reaches out as if to play
Then his jaws give a mighty snap
To take that sunshine's glow away

He's taken the sun into his jaw,
In his mouth the sun doth lay,
For he has eaten the sun away,
No longer can it give a shiny day.

The sun is gone, forevermore
The earth shrouded black, not a little gray,
For the sun became a dragon's meal,
The sun became the dragon's prey.

Darkness shrouded the earthly realm,
Overcasting the faces gay,
Causing the people to weep and mourn,
Causing the people to weep and pray.

Then, when it seemed the earth would die,
It seemed the earth would wither, decay,
The sun came out of the dragon's jaw,
Going upon it's merry way.

The dragon's mouth: a horrible prison
A place the sun did not wish to stay,
For in the sky was the sunshine's home,
making the earth so bright at day.

The darkness came, the darkness went,
The darkness knew it could not stay,
The darkness was not strong enough,
The darkness could not constrain a ray.

The sun was out after being led astray,
Shining, banning the darkness away.

This poem follows after an old chinese legend that explains an eclipse as a dragon eating the sun.

if you write a poem about God, then I will start writing my usual ones about him too.

Maybe start a freestyle-all-about-God thread, and keep this one calm. :) although, try writing poetry about something other than God, see if you can.... try writing about cows or something! Just because you write a poem that's not about God doesn't mean that you love Him any less!

PS my word still stands... extension.....

Insane Drummer 04-28-2002 07:28 PM

ok i get it.. i'll try to get something going... but everything i start by like line 10 is christian in some way... even if i am trying not to make it christian.......... i just can't help it.......

I probe the
wandering skies
with starry
sky-eyes
to extend beyond the
chains that bind my
free mind
unfree indeed
the capital escapes my
theistic pronouns
can I then probe
the starry skies?
locked within my
mind eyes
I search for some extension
some base, unmoving
to flow out like
a ladder to the moon
oh inconstant moon,
wait for me
by and by as I
extend beyond mind's eye

word. Substitution

SUBSTITUTION
by Emma Catherine Tucker

I.
They laugh, smiling at each others
throwing moonbeams,
glowing in the air of love
holding sweaty palm to sweaty palm,
walking down the hall
No doubt that
"Wow, they're really in love!"

II.
Sitting on the couch at her house
Flipping the channels
sometimes a glance the other way
But too often
bored sighs echo through the room
What to do?

III.
People widen their eyes in shock
"Not in love? Impossible!"
Couldn't understand
There was just that substitution for love
Trying to fit in by feeling what wasn't there
The fake, the mask, the unreal
portrayed.
