Las Vegas Massacre
Lord, have mercy.

Las Vegas shooting: At least 50 dead, more than 200 injured in massacre | Fox News

Dr. Thrunk 10-02-2017 05:58 AM

It's crazy. I mean, this has to be the worst mass shooting by a single person ever in the US.

I have a hard time fathoming exactly how one person could do so much damage.

Once victim #50 died it surpassed the Orlando nightclub shooting as the worst one in U.S. history not involving Native Americans.

So, so horrific. I have no words.

Dr. Thrunk 10-02-2017 11:30 AM

Currently at like 59 dead with over 500 wounded.

How long does it take to find a motive?

I don't want to be a conspiracy theory guy but this stuff drives me bananas. We have a right to know.

Dwight Schrute 10-12-2017 05:47 AM

The longer this goes on without any news, the greater the calls for conspiracy and cover up. I heard recently that there are discrepancies in timelines and reports now, which is only adding fuel to the fire.

Everyone (you and me included) has an online footprint that is usually helpful in telling people what we think or believe. Even if that is a straw man (we tend to post things to lead people to believe we are who we WANT to be seen as) versus who we really are), it should be helpful in determining some sort of motive.

Leboman 10-12-2017 07:21 AM

Does there have to be some grand motive in all this? Is it possible the guy was just a nut and snapped?

I'm not saying there wasn't one but I don't believe every single act of violence has to be motivated by something other than hate or insanity.

In full disclosure, I tend to give more credence to conspiracy theories than most so it definitely wouldn't surprise me if there's more to this than just a "lone wolf" shooter. However, I do realize that sometimes people are are just insane and/or violent.

Dwight Schrute 10-12-2017 07:31 AM

that was, I think, Stephen King's point in 11/22/63 (if I understand his prologue notes, anyway). sometimes the simplest answer is the right one. a nut job got lucky.

in this day and age, seems like there would be SOMETHING, though. but I wonder how much of that thirst for motive is just me (and probably most of America) hoping that he was a nut job ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE AISLE so I can feel validated in my position, while thumbing my nose at the OTHER SIDE. maybe that's the bigger issue, and it's one of the heart.

Dr. Thrunk 10-13-2017 07:04 AM

If anyone has any recent info that is confounding, such as conflicting timelines, I wouldn't mind seeing them.

As long as they aren't from crackpot websites. Ok, go ahead and make a scene about MSM news being 'fake media' all ya want, but I'm gonna trust The Guardian, CNN over Breitbart and Natural News any day of the week.

I don't find it hard to accept that no motive has been found, especially if the person was nearly a Luddite.

I also don't find it hard to accept that he did this and was not set up, especially because his actions preceding the attack lined up with the shooting. He was searching for a place to do this, booking hotels and Airbnb places close to large music events and gatherings. Maybe he lost nerve a few times. But, here, he finally went through with it.
