How many guitars do you use?

My wife thinks I may have a guitar addiction. But I tell her that I use them for church. I change guitars every few weeks so I end up playing all of my guitars through the year. Just wondering what every one else did. We have two other guitar players so I have adapted to playing lead and picking to add some depth to the songs.

How many do you have? I have way too many, but my wife does not really care. We have the money and I play them all.

five; solidbody electric, jazz box, steel-strung acoustic, nylon-strung classical, half-size Chinese classical for travel

So far, five guitars plus a bass:

Fender Stratocaster
Epiphone Les Paul Standard
Ibanez RS540P
Ibanez AW100 acoustic
Yamaha classical
Squire Jazz bass

I play all of them in church except the bass, and I've lent it to another player when needed.

How many I use on any given Sunday depends on the music selection and whether I have time for a guitar change between songs. Last week I used both the Strat and the LP; today I did everything on the Paul. A few weeks ago I played only acoustic. The classical often gets used at Christmas time for a tune or two.

I don't have nearly enough, though I have the basics covered fairly well. I really want to get a hollow-body electric, and I'm looking for a cheap Squier Strat with a maple fretboard for a project guitar. Eventually I want another Paul, too.

Before I sink tons on more guitars, I might get another amp. I haven't so far because I'm going direct at church, so I don't really need it, but I'd like to have a Marshall. Currently I have a silverface Twin Reverb and a Roland cube practice amp. I don't have a bass amp yet, so one of those will be added at some point.

A while ago, somebody asked me, "What was the last guitar you bought?"

I replied, "I don't know. I haven't bought my last guitar yet."

Mrs. 1/2-Fast just sighed and rolled her eyes.

Get one of these shirts: Phil_Keaggy_Music_::... . Your wife will feel better.

2 Strats, LP, Takamine, Seagull 12'ver, classical, Art & Lutherie parlor sized acoustic, a 3/4 of the parts of a project guitar that I'm not sure will come back together again. I think that makes 8. Up until somewhat recently I had a jazzbox that I sold and would love to get another one once funds allow...

Plus a bass, uke, and banjo. My fretted-stringed-instrument collection is ever-increasing as well.

For the most part, I play everything.

One American Standard Tele.

So yeah, I pretty effectively play all of mine. . . :p

Probably more someday - not today.

I have a few and I used them all.

I've got so many that I don't count them any longer. I have somewhere around 20 guitars, about 10 or 15 basses, 5 or 6 mandolins, a banjo, and a dobro. I have played every one of them in church and everywhere else that I play. I do have my favorites though. Incidentally, I just got a new bass yesterday. My wife thinks that I have too many also. She's correct. I do have too many. Storing them is difficult. Still when opportunity arrises I get another. I also have about 8 or 10 amps. I mainly use only two of those. I sold an amp yesterday.

1 electric, 1 acoustic, 1 bass, 1 amp, 1 pedal, and I intend to keep it that way. Would love to swap current electric for a PRS Mira and current amp for something tube, but if that never happens, I'll be ok with it. I'd rather listen to B.B. King playing a First Act than a hack playing the best gear in the world, and I have no reason to think those that would listen to me feel any different, so I put my focus on trying to be as good as Mr. King. ;)

I have three guitars currently, and I play two of them. My second electric hasn't been touched in over a year I think, poor thing... PRS SE Standards just don't sound as good as Fender MIA Strats ;).

Looks Like I am not the only one with guitar issues.

1. EPI acoustic 12 40 years old
2. Yamaha acoustic LGX6C the best sounding acoustic I have ever played.
3. Ovation Elite USA Black contour full back
4. Ovation Classic thin body ( on loan to a young girl with bone cancer)
5.. Martin 000-CXE black
6. Fender Clapton Strat Black
7. Fender Flame Ultra 1984
8. custom made Teli
9. Ibaneze 103 BM one of 250 sold in the US
10. Ibaneze 540 pro R over 20 years old. Pre- Santini model
11. Ibaneze Ergodyne Bass
12. Savana 200 mandolin. just learning.
As far as the money thing I make it and she thinks she is the only one who should spend it.
Our praise team never knows which one I will bring in.

I'm down from 10 to 4 and I use all of them constantly. Strat, Tele and two acoustics. The other 6 were the ones I didn't play, so I sold them

Same here. I sold off a Tele and a couple of Godins that I barely ever used and my daughter sold her Tak. We're also selling a bass because my wife got a replacement that she prefers better.
Even still, it's like a small music store in here...

3x electrics, 3x acoustics and a bass.

I've lent out one of my electrics, so it gets played reasonably often (I know for certain it gets played at least once every second Wednesday when I meet up with my friend to jam :P), I use my LP all the time, and I always intend to use my strat when I'm playing around at home. I'll get around to it. One day.

I just got a new acoustic, so I'll be using that primarily and often (particularly at Church). One is virtually unusable (the action is too high, and in restringing it about two months back, I accidentally botched up one of the strings and haven't been bothered since). The other is my dad's old one, which I use when I'm taking doing stuff outside (e.g. last time I used it was last year at a high school athletics carnival).

My bass I use all the time when I'm playing bass at Church.

martinedwards 10-03-2011 02:31 AM

In a year, I WILL play them all.

at the minute, in a typical month I'll play both variaxes, the jumbo acoustic, fanned fret acoustic, fanned fret 5 string bass and fretless 5 bass.

the others (12 string, acoustic bass, 4 string bass, archtop, strat, double cut electric, bouzouki, electric mando, and acoustic mando) will get palyed at some point during the year.

the LP and strat copies I picked up on Friday will be set up, played then shifted on.
