Best guitarist ever?

Who, in your opinion is the best guitarist ever and why?

Mark Tremonti (Creed/Alter Bridge) - Listen to the solo in "Open Your Eyes". That's all the evidence you need.

Wes Montgomery. Those two words should be all the evidence you need. ;)

Funny to me that this thread pops up every couple months or so.

Indeed. That's why I will not answer this thread.

First of all what band is Wes from?

And there weren't any other threads on this in page 2,3,4...

The best guitarist ever probably wasn't or isn't in a popular band.

I don't know if I'd say that Tremonti is the best, but he is definitely a phenomenal guitarist

Wesley7777 02-17-2006 05:36 PM

Brad Paisley

Jesus of course. He'd get 5 electric guitars and somehow play them all at once, plus a drumset, bass, keyboard, and a few violins. ;)

BillSPrestonEsq 02-17-2006 06:23 PM

Segovia.

I don't really think anyone can really take the title. Some people, like Yngwie, can play really fast and have good technique, but they aren't as interesting to listen to as, say, Slash, who admits he has bad technique.

There is no "best"...there are only our favorites.

That said, the folks that I think are los cream de los crop are:
Steve Morse
Christopher Parkening
Muriel Anderson
Doyle Dykes
Tommy Emmanuel
John McLaughlin
Tony MacAlpine
Pat Methany
Mike Stern
Chet Atkins
Scott Jones

Wes was not in a "band" per se...regardless, he was an amazing guitarist.
