What's with all the "Versus!" threads I'm seeing?
Once upon a time, slap_j thought it would be a good idea to create a thread where one could discuss the outcome of various hypothetical battles between comic book characters. Thus, the
Versus! thread was born. Apparently slap_j was correct, because the thread pretty much immediately exploded, and soon became the fastest-growing thread in the forum. After a short while, it became clear that the discussions had transcended our little thread, and that we needed to expand. However, the big meanie administrator denied our request for a SubForum for
Versus! battles, so instead, the
Versus! thread was split into individual threads for its respective superhero vs superhero matchups under the main forum, and the original
Versus! thread faded into oblivion.
Can I make a new Versus! battle?
Sure! Feel free to create as many as you'd like. However...
Are there rules I should follow for creating new Versus! battles?
Yes, there are. Well, sort of. Technically, Luke has recently ruled that forum-specific rules are no longer to be posted via announcements, but should be proposed to the administration, and if they bear relevence and necessity to the forum, they'll be added to the list of
forum-specific rules. However, I don't feel these "rules" are really important enough to justify doing such with, so instead, you may consider them guidelines. No consequences will be reaped for violating them, but we encourage you to follow them nonetheless, for the sake of keeping things orderly.
- To more easily differentiate Versus! threads from general-topic threads, format the title of Versus! threads as follows (without quotes or brackets): "Versus!: [character A] vs [character B]"
- In your initial post, please provide a detailed biography of each character, outlining their unique skills/powers/characteristics and weaknesses, especially if your battle involves a somewhat obscure character. It's difficult to hold a discussion without some underlying knowledge of the subject at hand.
- Try not to create any Man versus Ant battles, in which the odds are so heavily swayed toward one character that there's no question as to who the winner will be. If the discussion requires little more than a, "Umm, duh," it's probably not a good idea for a Versus! battle. Try to make sure the characters are at least somewhat evenly matched.
- This is a general rule of conduct here at CGR, but it's proven to be somewhat of an issue in past Versus! battles, so I feel the need to echo it here: Keep things on topic. Try not to stray too deeply into discussion of characters or scenarios other than the subjects of the current Versus! battle. This one is the exception to the "guidelines" rule: Since it is a general CGR rule of conduct, it will be enforced by editing, deleting, or splitting and merging your post, depending on the circumstances.
- Last but not least, have fun!
