View Full Version : Question about MxPx
Ok, I have heard a lot about MxPx.. and a little bit of there music. I have read some of the posts about them, but I am not sure about some stuff.... like...
Are they a "Christian Band"... that sings all about God?
Did they used to be a "Christian Band", but now they aren't?
If they are not a "Christian Band", is any of there music unappropriate or does it have any bad language?
Please inform the uninformed!
ps- I put christian band in " " because I think that you can be a band that doesn't always sing about God but still be Christians

Hey. Well...a while ago, I had the same questions. Like, was I going to be disappointed with the CD? I do not have any of MXPX's CDs, because my parents like me to have softer music, but anyway I looked on the internet and read up the words to MXPX's songs. It seems like they have some Christian musice, mostly not Christian ( but there are no bad words or cussing ) and some that are just funny songs. I have listened to them and they are pretty cool! So...it's your choice what they are like. I say their good, on a scale of one to ten it's a 9 3/4 for me!

If you look in all of the little pamphlets with the lyrics (i forget what they're called), you will see in every one of them mxpx thanks and praises God. granted, not every song mentions God, but the message in many songs is clear. take for insance, "tomorrow is another day" from slowly going the way of the buffalo, or "you found me" from on the cover and "foolish" from the ever passing moment are just a few songs that clearly exhibit Christian beliefs.
however, who are we to pass judgement as to whether or not a band or its members are Christians???

I've heard so much questioning about MxPx's Christianity that it makes me wonder how much some people actually understand what it is to be a Christian. MxPx likes to put out good, fast punk music that doesn't conform to the secular patterns of bad language and confused morals. I don't know where they stand with Jesus, but they do make music that never crosses the line into immorality. And if you stretch back to their first album, Pokinatcha, there are several songs directly about God and our relationship with him. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants really good punk music without the mixed up morals of a secular group.

I am pretty sure that MxPx is a christian band. That is just flat out my opinion, but it is based on what MxPx is about. I understand how some people may not see that. MxPx stands for magnified plaid, they wanna go to a punk rawk show, and they're gonna have a party at their house: No that doesn't really relate to Christianity, it's just being a person and having fun. :D
But, as guitar girl 3 said, Foolish, Tomorrow's Another Day, and You found me are examples of their Christianity. Other songs make direct references to God or Jesus or even scripture, songs such as:
I'm the Bad Guy False Fiction
Different Things Misunderstanding
I think the Christian band--> Hangnail <-- Put it Best when they said that they were a group of Christians in a band, which meant sooner or later their values would show in their lyrics. I think POD is kinda the same way as MxPx (although more of their songs are directly related to Christianity)
BESIDES, MxPx IS AN AWESOME BAND!

My brother used to listen to them alot. I dont think they consider themselves to be a "Christian" band. They are nore along the lines of christians in a band.

MxPx is a band comprised of Christians, not necessarily a Christian band. However, many of their lyrics can be correlated to christianity and God. It's pretty cool.

Actually, I think they are sell outs. They started out with mostly Christian themed songs, but then they switched as they became more popular, until finally God was hardly ever mentioned in thier songs.

The songs by MxPx are not all totally in line with Gods word and some do sing about girls and other stuff but there isn't any cussing or bad stuff in their songs like in secular punk bands. To me if it doesn't have a bad message or swearing it is ok to listen to. I think they are Christian.

They are Christians, but they have all but totally abandoned using music as a tool to spread the good news. Their early albums were definately Christian, and most of their early shows were held at churches. But as they rose in popularity, and caught the eye of the secular market as well, they stopped mentioning God, stopped singing a lot of their early stuff, and seem to have gone totally secular in their approach. It doesn't mean their music is bad, or anything, all it means is they are sell outs....chasing after fame and fortune....and it is sad. Their stuff still sounds good and it isn't negative, but they could be so much more, they were so much more.

They used to really rock but then Blink 182 hit the mainstream and I guess MxPx felt some pressure. Anyways, they have become sell outs. Their music has changed and their lyrics have changed. The music has more of a pop sound and the lyrics are really simple. They used to have real deep and complex lyrics like in Understanding and Do Your Feet Hurt. I hope they hit rock bottom and remember what originally sold their albums.

I'm wondering if any of you people who are judging them, and gossiping about them, have heard their new cd (not the most blantent messege ever, but it's got some stuff that alot smarter then some other Christian bands.)? I've had it up to here (wherever here is) with all the worthless junk about whether their messege is the best or not. None of you have any right to make any of these judgements. God never put any laws on being in a band for fun, but nobody here ever even considers that. And furthermore, it's their job. Do you expect everyone who say, bags groceries to tell people about Jesus while they bag their stuff, and judge and gossip about the if they don't? Or should people who work drive up windows ask "would you like salvation with that?"? Exactly. This thread wouldn't exist if they had never gotten popular in the mainstream, which seems to be a sin around here. Think before you question someones Christianity. Sorry for being so blunt, but this topic has been done to death.

I think people need to stop going by the obvious and look a little deeper into things....
Just because a band plays in a church does not make them Christian. Churches are used by rock bands as a venue that is usually very cheap to rent out. I have heard stories of people smoking dope and having sex at 'church shows' (This is another thread so don't reply to the last part). Secondly, anyone who says that bands who do not have every song on an album given to God need to look at their own music. The band Caedmon's Call is considered very Christian but yet on their album "Long Line Of Leavers" I found songs that have no point with Christianity at all; does this make them a non-Christian band? MxPx is a punk band; Mike, Tom, and Yuri are punks...they are gonna' do punkish things (Example: Write songs about girls).
In closing I am saying that MxPx is not a sell-out band. They are a Christian band and they are a Punk band...that is about as simple as it gets...

I agree......... they didnt start changing their lyrics, etc. until the album sales dropped. I think it would be kinda hard to share the word of God when no one is buying your cd's or listening.... but im just prejudice cuz im a MxPx fan :D

the guys are not sell-outs - i personally think it's AWESOME when Christian bands go mainstream 'cos they can reach such a broader audience! while i listen to mainly the older MxPx stuff, i still think there is a strong underlying message of God in their music, and yes there are songs that are OBVIOUSLY about God whether they say it or not. a band is bound to change over time, in style and whatever else. i don't wanna argue, i am also probably biased b/c i think they rawk :D
