wow, i thought i was the only one to who talks to myself online...obviously, i was mistaken! but hey, what else is there to do! anywhoozle, Jan Krist is cool. she's a singer/songwriter chick...except that she's not really a chick, considering her youngest kid is like a junior in high school or something. i dunno. her daughter's the lead singer of Velour 100...if you've even heard of them. but Jan's good. she's real good. ummmm...maybe a little like old jennifer knapp stuff, but not a whole lot. a little like Clear. a bit like Over the Rhine. kinda soulful melodic acoustic rock stuff. kinda. real hard to explain. check out her website, maybe that'll help. www.jankrist.com yeah. peace

I'm not sure if she's english or not, but I have a few of her albums now, and I've been a fan for a while. Just some really thought-provoking lyrics with a simple style.
As far as style goes, I'm not sure who I'd compare her to, but if one must categorize, I'd pick "folk music with more of a beat than that but no guitar or drum solos."
She lives in the Detroit, MI area and (I think) even has a day job working on the activities staff of a local retirement home. That's part of why you don't hear of the next "Jan Krist Summer Tour" or that sort of thing.
Does that help?
Sorry to leave you talking to yourself (on Christmas Day no less...), but I was out of town......but good to see you stopped by!

Yes, Jan does live in Michigan and does have that day job. But, she does travel around. I saw her at Cornerstone Festival this summer. and I believe she's playing up in the great northwest later this summer. She's got a new CD out on Silent Planet (www.silentplanet.com) It came out just in time for Cornerstone (go figure). Her husband is Allen and he plays percussion with her and there are occasional other players as well.
