Wow, they're an icon in Christian music. It won't be the same without Phil's crazy hair flying around during concerts. He'll be missed.

That's CRAZY!!! Phil is the first guy that I think of when someone mentions the Newsboys. Is he going to do solo albums now??

They have been slowly sliding into obscurity for quite some time now. Seriously...Jody and Phil were my two favorite guys in the band and now they're both gone.

The funny thing is, Jody is a pipe maker now.

The first few times I saw the Newsboys, Phil wasn't even part of the band. The first time I saw them, they were opening for Petra. Wow..that was a long time ago.

At least three of the Newsboys were avid cigar and pipe smokers.

I guess we can't talk about the Newsboys anymore.

Why would you stop talking about them? They will still be an awesome group. Just not as awesome as they were. I just wished that I had went to see them, when Jody was still with them. It's been 21 years since Jody and I graduated high school, and 21 years since I've talked to him. Doesn't seem that long, but I guess to him, since so much has happened in his life, it probably seems longer.

There was a ban on the topics of Tobacco and Alcohol when we posted that. It was sarcasm. And the thing is, Pete is the only original member, and Jeff is the only one that's with them, other than Pete, that's been there for more than 5 years... It's not the same band... It's the same name, but it's not the same band.

iirc, this is not the first time he's left the band and, as was already stated, he's not a founding member. It was, however, his presence in the band that coincided with them getting more popular recognition than they'd had before.
Wasn't "Step up to the microphone" his first with the band?

He joined between TMTYL and Step Up. He was in the movie they made. Oh, and I forgot about Duncan...

Phil recorded on TMTYL.

Did he? I thought Kevin recorded on it... That must've been while he was still going by Urry.

Wow I just the Newboys play yesterday and that was the first time I realized Phil Joel wasn't part of the Newsboys. . .

But this is such an old thread. Old news. . I'm so out of touch lol (well not like I'm much of a fan anymore, but I really did like Phil Joel, he was awesome).
