Well, what are they? I think Tool has the best ones, especially Lateralus, with the diagram on the back and the layered human insert.

Radiohead also has some great covers, especially Kid A.

A few of my favorites are:

Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous - King's X
Zooma - John Paul Jones
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
Atom Heart Mother - Pink Floyd
In The Court of The Crimson King - King Crimson
Liquid Tension Experiment - Liquid Tension Experiment

I could name a lot more, but I'll keep it short.

I think Rush has had some interesting album art,not really their covers, but the inside art .

I can't look at Tool's album art

And of course we can't forget Smell the Glove by Spinal Tap!

Can you hear that sustain? I don't hear anything. Well of course not, that's because I'm not playing it, but if I were....you'd hear it.

Of the few secular albums I have, I would have to say Creed's Human Clay is my favorite. That or Megadeth's Risk.

I'd say that Nirvana's "Nevermind" has the most recognizable cover I can think of. I like the cover of The Smashing Pumpkins' - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness a bunch. Weird Al's "Poodle Hat" is a current favorite. And I'm definitely digging the art, inside and out, of Five Iron Frenzy's "The End Is Near"

Mr.Zachcore

indeed the end is near has some of the coolest art i've ever seen

and i like Further Seems Forever-How to Start A Fire

and the cover of Minor Threat-Complete Discography

haha...indeed.

Before I make my post, I would like to clarify. Does this thread speak of just covers, or the entire sleeve/packaging?

I made the mistake of looking it up, out of curiosity.

I now have to agree (about the pervert part, not about it being a good cover :p). ;)

i've barely even heard the band, but for some reason i think this has to be one of the coolest album covers i've ever seen. I dont know why, really. It just strikes me as..."cool"

Tool - Ænima. No contest.
Ænima had a neato special effect with the whole hologram image thing, but I'm not sure I'd call it the best. Once the nostalgia of swaying it back and forth to see all the green eyes move around wears off, it's just not that impressive anymore. It's a great cover, no doubt, but there are better. :)

Edit: By the way, it's nice to see that the "Coming Soon" in your signature actually links to something again, though you people seem to have a very loose definition of "soon." ;)

I don't know. Don't you find Lateralus to have a better album cover? I think I do.

Definitely. I've barely touched my Lateralus case since I bought it (I keep the actual CD in a different case) because it's so amazing looking. I dare not risk smudging the sleeve with my fingerprints.

Sgt Peppers is a cool cover
Really, what is it?
Wow, this statement was made 1 1/2 years ago. You must have been new to rock music. But STILL, Sgt Peppers is a cultural icon! Did you live in a cabin in Montana all of your life before you found CGR??? Even then, how could you not have known about Sgt Peppers? I never give people flack for statements they made over a year ago, but this takes the cake *shakes head*.

Yeah, it's the cliche answer, but usually cliche answers contain truth. Especially when they involve The Beatles. The best album cover ever:

You know that little doll or something with the red and white stripes on it on the right side, near the 's' in "Beatles"? That shirt says "Rolling Stones" on it. I wonder what that's supposed to mean...

I wonder what that's supposed to mean...It's a Shirley Temple doll. I've never read anything conclusive about the significance of the shirt. I'm sure it wasn't anything negative. Perhaps they just liked the Rolling Stones and wanted a reference, but having another rock 'n' roll band on the cover would seem out of place.

Don't read too much into it. When they were putting the album cover together, they just threw that Stones shirt on the Shirley Temple doll as a way of paying respects.
