well, I like the kind of electronica that radiohead and stuff do, and I can put up with air and daft punk, although I wouldnt buy daft punk. normally though, I don't like all that dance stuff, you know the dumphdumphdumphdumphbooomboomboom nonsense

Some of it is pretty cool... drum and bass can be sweet, jungle is alright, happy hardcore is alright if you like the singing... techno/electronica is good music for driving for some reason...

Drum and bass is just the coolest thing ever, but I don't have enough of it! :(

Air is imho wierd. Their first album (Moon Safari) is one of the finest things ever recorded in the history of mankind, as is Premiers Symptomes, an EP) but their second album was pretty bad - they were very experimental, but they lost the French lyrics and started going on about sex, although the track with Beck on it is class, and the instrumentals are still great.

Also representing France are Daft Punk (I just bought "Discovery" yesterday - not at all bad)

Massive Attack, Portishead, Propellorheads and the like are all great too. Morcheeba is beautiful.

I guess what I'm saying is that I love the genre!

my little bro is really into that kinda stuff (please please pray for hime, that scene's really messed him up.) talking only about the music, i think it sucks. the dj's really have no musical talent, they just have to be good with their fancy electronics. some industrial music i like (go massivivid), and a tiny tiny little bit of happy hardcore. the rest i can't stand at all. gives me headaches.
about the scene though... most of the dj's and a lot of the fans (raving techno freaks) are into drugs and new age cult stuff. they take weird pills, get all high, then use their music as a form of meditation. they talk about spirits, demons, angels, and even satan in a lot of the songs and at the rave parties. again, please pray for my brother. please stop and do it right now. we don't really know how bad he's screwed up, but we've learned a lot about him. i'm not blaming the music for it, but i know it had a lot to do with getting him there.

Rave music is horrible; anything played at a Rave party deserves to be destroyed.

Ambient music is really good for relaxing and stuff like that. Electric music is really neat to hear. I absolutly love Aphex Twin; they (Or he, I guess I should say) are making some music that is really new.

Joy Electric never ceases to amaze me; Ronnie Martin is absolutly awseome. If you hate electronica try Joy Electric; it totally changed me.

I like some of it-- there is a genre called Inteligent Dance music-- someone said they liked radiohead electronica- you should check that out. I downloaded "Come on my Selector" by Squarepusher- I rather enjoyed its compexity. it's not typical rave music.

I like all kind of electronic music, SYNTHPOP, DARKWAVE, NEW WAVE | NEW ROMANTIC, EBM | INDUSTRIAL, TRANCE, DNB, TECHNO, AMBIENT, INSTRUMENTAL ELECTRONICA , EXPERIMENTAL.

My dream is to make music like that, but I don't have the machines I need, that's why I'm trying to make loops with computer programs meanwhile

Wow, I thought I was the only one who went on-line to try and find music programs.

I have really not found one I am satisfied with yet; but www.analogx.com has some pretty cool stuff on it (There is an amazing turntable program)

Do you have any suggestions on where to get good computer synth programs that are free?

Check out www.hitsquad.com/smm I *think* that's the right address, it's the Shareware Music Machine, lots of good free or almost free programs for music making, and not limited to electronic stuff either. If you want a really simple program for making beats and loops get the Hammerhead Rythym Station, I use it a lot and have heard some similar loops in professional music, yet it is simple enough that last year my 10 year old brother made a bunch of songs on it. The Moonfish is a really good tracking program that comes with a few neat samples and a lot of capabilities. If you want easy dance beats Fruity Loops would be a neat program to get. If you're more into the technical side of things check out Buzz, the possibilities are endless with this program. Check out a program called Stomper, it is basically a synth that you can tweak to make your own drum sounds, which can then be used in a tracker like the ones I just mentioned. For really weird electronic sounds get Coagula, its called a color-tone organ or something like that, basically you paint a little picture and it reads the data and makes a sound based on it. For old school synth sounds try VAZ or any of the many TB404 clones out there. That's about all I can think of offhand, but I use most of these programs for my music and I think I get some pretty good sounds so hopefully you will too.

thelitguy - Sorry dude but AnologX is on my list of boycotted software companies hehehe. Their stuff is horrible, I won't get anything from them again. But you like Aphex Twin so I can't give you too much of a hard time;) Did you know that on his early albums most of the instruments he made himself? The man is a genius. Of course you would know this, you know good music when you hear it...
