My song by song review:
Wherever We Go: Kinda catchy. It get's a little boring after a while though.
Go: This one's an awesome song, but it's so short. :-/
Something Beautiful: This one sounds like it belongs on LLD. Good lyrics, but I think it's a bit too techno-ish.
The Mission: This one's pretty good, talks about history's most prominent missionaries, not a very attractive song musically.
Let It All Come Out: I don't really get this song. I don't know why.
In Wonder: This sounds like U2, awesome song, lyrically and musically. My favorite on the album.
Your Love Is Better Than Life: Eh...rap...no.
I am Free: I like it better than the live version. Probably the most rock-ish on the album.
Secret Kingdom: This is like Take Me To Your Leader and Breakfast jammed into one song with new lyrics.
The Letter: Boring song, again, good lyrics, boring music.
Gonna Be Alright: See above.
Overall, 7/10. I'm glad they're done with worship, but I don't know about this one. It isn't bad, but there isn't much 'wow factor' to it.

All I've heard from it is their version of I Am Free. I'll take the Desperation Band (the original) version, thank you. I don't think the Newsboys have done anything good since Take Me To Your Leader.

Although your play-by-play doesn't paint the album in the best light, this is an album I'll definitely have to hear and judge for myself.

Finally! The new album is out! I think it is pretty good as well. My favorite songs are "Secret Kingdom," "Go," and "Something Beautiful." I still have some song searching to do, but, so far, this album has met most of my expectations. Their back! Whoo hoo!

I take back what I've said about this album. It just takes some time to grow on you.

We picked this one up Sunday at Wal*Mart on a whim. I've given it two listens.
The first two songs (the "Go" songs) I had already heard, and they still sound good. I was impressed by "Something Beautiful": I didn't expect something so far into the synth realm, nor for it to work so well (since much CCM nowadays seems to incorporate a great deal of gaudy synth flourishes).
Unfortunately, the middle of the album then gets a bit dull after that. "The Mission" is really driving, but seems to lack a good hook that would make it memorable. "Let It All Come Out" seems to lack anything catchy about it. These two songs in particular are almost tiring to listen to—the energy is good, but they feel as though they are going nowhere in particular. I feel more like I'm being dragged through the dirt instead of being driven along, if that makes any sense.
I liked the chorus (chord progression) of "In Wonder", but that's about it. "Your Love Is Better Than Life" is much more interesting. It's got that sort of hook I was looking for over the past few songs, although the chorus is a tad repetitive. The "rap" is fine by me: different, but not bad (and believe me, I've disliked vocal techniques such as these before!).
"I am Free": I don't much like the song personally, but it works. It's got the energy of "The Mission", but with an actual, memorable melody or "hook" that makes the song worth remembering. The hook (and chord progression) is a bit generic sounding to me, but it did start life as a worship song (if I understand correctly), so it could be just me.
The final three songs is back to the good stuff, for me. "Secret Kingdom" definitely has the appeal of older Newsboys: the lyrical quirkiness is definitely there, at least. I think at times it sounds like it's trying too hard to be something like "Breakfast" (particularly in the keyboard), but I don't fault it much for that; that's an okay thing to be trying for. ;) It's definitely one of the better songs on the album.
I really like "The Letter (One Of A Kind)" and "Gonna Be Alright"; they have some really simple, no-nonsense chord progressions that are actually pleasant to listen to. They easily beat out the ballads on Thrive.
I'd give it a six or seven out of ten, also. I really like some of the songs, but the duds keep the album from being really great: even the title song from Thrive, the song I like the least, I enjoy more than the bad ones here. In short, it's got a few songs I'd probably skip on a normal day, and that is an extremely rare thing among the music I listen to, if that means anything.
