alright. with all the recent talk about different types of rectifiers, their uses, and how they work in the amps and accessories topic, i thought i'd collect all my data on rectifiers and make a post explaning how both solid state and tube rectifiers operate, and what they do. however, i ran into a major problem: i can't find a darn thing on how tube rectifiers work. are they simply a tube that works as the two diodes in a rectifier circuit, with the caps and such seperate? i'm guessing this is how they work, but i really don't know. information on any type of tube is hard to come by, and since SS rectifiers have almost completely replaced tube ones (the only place i know of tube recs being used is guitar amps) information on how these circuits work is pretty scarce.

i'd ask to my electronics teacher, but he's out of town.

ive always understood that a rectifire in a tube amp was a tube but beats me. I wouldnt know. so post when you find out it wouldk be nice to know,

like i said, i'm going to do a large post on both SS and tube rectifiers in the amps and accessories topic once i have all the data.

and after looking on some more search engines, i'm still coming up broke. if i had an amp with a tube rec i would probably be able to figure out how it all works, but sadly, i don't.

Rectifiers, tube or solid state, serve the same purpose in an amplifier. How they operate is over my head. I just know that they do the sam thing.

this entry might shed a bit of light on the whole shebang...or at least point you in the right direction

thanks, but there's not much in there that i didn't know already. it all deals with SS rectifiers. although, it did point me to some information that makes me think i'm on the right idea as to how tube rectifiers work.

"A very common vacuum tube rectifier configuration contained one cathode and twin anodes inside a single envelope; in this way, the two diodes required only one vacuum tube. The 5U4 and 5Y3 were popular examples of this configuration."

ah, so it's one tube. now i get it.
don't see how i missed that paragraph...
*feels really stupid*
