I was wondering if I should go with the Digi 001, or make my own setup with emagic Logic?

It all depends on your preferances. Pro Tools is a deep program, but is arranged in a very usable way. Logic is very deep, and I don't find it as easy to use as Pro Tools.
The Digi 001 is a great setup as long as your computer is setup to meet the minimums listed at the digidesign site. There are lots of websites about configuring computers for music use, and they will be more helpful than I can be!
Have you looked into any other programs? Steinbergs Cubase is also in the running with Logic and the version of Pro Tools that the 001 uses. It is another very deep program that will give you plenty to work with.
What audio cards are you looking into? Of course the 001 has the advantage of having its own interface (and a pretty good one at that!), but you may need a different set of features than it provides.
Like I said, it all depends on your preferences. Try and download all the free stuff you can and work with it for a while and see what you like.
