Hi guys,

I go to this, kind of like a meeting which gathers the youth in my, lets say neighborhood(I live in egypt so it's kinda different). This isn't my youth meeting, but i go there to help out. The problem is that most of those who go there are what you call "nominal" christian. they don't know the songs, they aren't really interessted in learning them and their reaction to what ever you do is kind of slow. I have tried to teach them the songs, to get other youth that are my friends to help out, but there are still those who don't react. What would you do?
you are probably asking why do they(those who are the nominals) go then. It is different in my country. Almost all christins go to church, but how many are really a part of the kingdom: A very low persentage of christians, which are a low persantage of the egyptians.
What i want is ideas for leading worship in a group like this!

Dude you just keep preachin to them and pray for each of them that God would speak to their hearts and God will do the rest.....I recomend the Prayer of Jabez if you havent heard of it search for it on the net

Find out what they like to listen to. It's o.k. to ask what they like. They might not give you a great answer, because I know teens, but probe them and ask them. You need the keys to there heart and what gets them motivated. And then nail it.

On a spiritual level I say pray, pray, and pray! Then persevere! If we are faithful, He is faithful to deliver! (And I agree, the Prayer of Jabez is powerful stuff!)

On a practical side.... definitely find out what they listen to when they get to choose the music. What's playing on their walkman? What is on the radio? TV? etc... Then see if you can adapt some of the praise and worship to styles they are familiar with and enjoy.

Look to local culture as well. We have a large Latin American population and there a certain rythmns and instruments that people identify with. In addition, our youth responds really well to what I will call "realism". We take time when we are introducing a new song to make it "real" for them. Give the song an interpretation they can identify with. Explain it if necessary... break it down. When the song becomes more than just a catchy tune, when it becomes an expression of emotions and things they are dealing with or want to share... then we cross into a time of communicating with God. Where we can give Him glory and He can minister to us as individuals.

When we started working on worship with our youth group the first night there was no music. We asked them to write down their all time favorite songs, artists, videos. Then we spent the rest of the evening finding out why they were their favorites. Nine times out of ten, it was because they found something they could identify with.

Wooo... got a little windy. Just don't give up! We are talking about a revival it sounds like!
