Awesome to the point of which it exceeds words. At first, it's somewhat...too heavy. The second time through, you realize...it doesn't get any better.

 Seriously? Changing of the Times had no variety and Chasing Safety was just bland and boring screamo. The old albums are great, but you can't really compare this album with them. They're much too different.
I really only liked one song on it. The rest just seemed like they lost their mojo.

changing of times was good! but it wasnt the greatest. to be honest i felt it had no feel. chassing saftey was great but it was still missing something.
Define the great line is soo different its almost old and new underoath. its got a diferent texture a more epic feel to it. its not an album you could like straight off the bat with insainly catchy songs. but its got this big feel to it that i cant explain. In regards to myself is a flippin awesome song the intro is just so in your face!
I have never heard an album like it! i love salaminr as well its so cool psalm 50 in icelandic!
and the intro to every one looks so good from up here is just phenominal in its own right! aaron gillespie is the man on drums!
i cant really have a fave song because they are all good!
I only really liked I think the first song. The one that had a Norma Jean feel to it.
I liked Writing on the Walls, it, to me, was the only song with even a remotely UO feel to it...

Ok. This is an AMAZING CD. dont get me wrong. But, it seemed almost like having aaron do less vocals and having all the instrumentals was just a cop out. But, lyriclly, it was better. And the deeper screaming was also a nice touch. I also (though i dont know why) feel that ALL the songs run together and sounded the same (although i love them all) SO! my final suggestion is BUY THIS CD! and get theyre only chasing safety, which was about the same (maybe a tab better

Dude. i dont know. Maybe, Norma Jean is sorta more all of the place. More Mathcore. But yeah, I guess a little.
To whom is may concern didnt quite meet the standards of their other hymn (kinda) some will seek forgiveness, others escape, but it was still a good song. once you got past the 20 minute instrumental intro.

UnderOath is amazing the first song I heard by them was "Reinventing Your Exit" and that was acouple of years ago and I never really checked them out until I heard "Writting on the walls" and just yeah I never like screamo until I heard Spencers scream and now I'm into Scream, hardcore bands, "Regards To Myself" blew me away the vocals and guitar just I learned how to play it but it took me 3 months to figur it out, I give it a 10!

Norma Jean isnt close to being mathcore.
I was thinking that UO would kind of go in the direction they did after hearing "I have 10 friends and a crowbar...". I really think that song should have gone on DTGL. Overall it was a step up from TOCS but alot of the songs were similar to each other (in fact i heard the same riff on two songs ) but overall good listen. Reminded of ETID a little bit.

I have been a long time fan of Underoath and I'd have to say this is one of there better albums. I like the direction this one went in compared to ToCS and how it was more of a unified album than a few songs on one disc. All of Underoath's albums are great in my opinion though.

I can't normally listen to an entire album from this general genre group without coming down with a headache, and while that remains true, I find myself listening to my brother's copy of DTGL a lot. There's something entirely magnetic about it.
I like how they balance the savagery of Spencer's vocals with interludes of truly beautiful music. It seems like they've got an exemplary grasp on a 'beauty and the beast' mentality.

This has got to be Underoath's most powerful cd. I've had it for a few months and still love it. The screaming has gotten better and they really make use of sung vocals well.

Ok man, no offense, but you must know next to none guitarists then. Tim is by no means the most technical player, not being cocky, he just isn't. And i know you said that YOU know of, so i'm not attacking you.
I could give you a list of a LOT more technical guitar players or all sorts of music.
And what do you mean James is weird? They're all weird, all weird and funny. I have watched the dvd, i loved it, those guys are so awesome and funny. But judging by that video, the "weirdest" or, as i would like to say, 'funniest' is Tim.

That was hilarious. Beyond reason. I know it's obvious, but come on, they sing him happy B-day everyday...and it's only his b-day once a year. There's nothing better than going through the drive thru at some restaurant and responding to their usual, "Have a nice day", with "happy birthday!". Try it. and i don't really get how you said Tim was the most technical guitarist you know of, and yet you know of the guys from Becoming The Archetype, those guys, at the moment, are by far some of the most technical guitarist in the Christian music industry. A 7 for me. This album got way too much hype for the overall quality. It's pretty unstructured/random, and these chords:

followed by heavy strums of the lower strings seem to fill every song. I know it was actually worse, but I liked They're Only Chasing Safety more (though not by much). Still has a couple of good songs though

It's your opinion and everything, but the fact that it was less structured and more random and crazy was what wet it apart from the generic screamo that "Chasing Safety" was.

Seriously, this is a screamo band. You can't turn it into all emo, and kick Spencer. Aaron is better as backing anyway, imo. And the drums....What the hell?! The drums are incredible! I don't know how you can not call that talent.
Mr. claw
08-01-2007, 12:23 AM
 All of Underoath's fans (with the exception of AX, here) would totally spaz out if they kicked Spencer and made Aaron the frontman.
Spencer is a perfectly good vocalist.
+SEAL+
08-02-2007, 03:27 PM
Agreed. Having Spencer up front is what makes it Underĝath. (Ah, I love the accent-mark plugin for Firefox!!)
Okay, now that I've heard Define the Great Line, it's time for me to weigh in...AWESOME!!
Okay, this is my first Underĝath CD, and so I was expecting quite a bit...well, it fulfilled. I think the big part I like about it is that they scream, but it's not about the screams. It's also about the instrumental arrangements (like Salmarnir, which was an awesome song, BTW) and the contrast between Aaron's vocals and Spencer's screaming.
The really cool thing about it was that it told a story of sorts. If you read through the CD booklet, looking at the pictures and looking at the lyrics, it almost starts to fall into a pattern, with Salmarnir as the turning point of all the action. The first four songs are full of despair and wallowing in darkness. Then comes Salmarnir, which is from the Icelandic Bible, a Psalm about God calling all his people. Then after that, you've got songs about a soul making its way towards God, until you get to "Behind the mask you'll find yourself alone/it's not the end of the road for you."
(Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but that's what I got out of it)
Not incredible enough to merit a 10 (which I will probably never give to any album), but definitely a 9.
