I've had my iPod mini for over a year now. The USB cable I use to connect my iPod has been finicky lately, and I think it's probably gotten worn out and needs to be replaced (I have a bad reputation for wearing out headphones like this). I can buy a new cable from apple.com for $19, but are there stores where I might be able to get one cheaper?

Is it still under warranty? You could try taking it in to an Apple store and see if they replace it. It's worth the try, even if it's not under warranty.

i don't really know. almost everywere i've seen name-brand ipod products for sale they're all the same price, and i haven't seen any non-name brand cables. have you tried cleaning it? it'd be hard to find something to clean the ipod end of that cable, but worth a shot, may just save you $20. (and if it's broken there's no hurting it...)

he said he's had it over a year, so probably not. unless he bought extended applecare.

Ha, excited someone posted in the Electronics forum?
I'll check Wal-Mart, but after a customer service nightmare with them earlier this year, I'm never going in Best Buy again.
I've had the iPod since last June, so no, I'm pretty sure the warranty has expired. The nearest Apple store is three hours away.
I'm pretty sure the wire has broken or gotten kinked, so no amount of cleaning would change that.
At this rate, I'll probably just buy it online.
i have a spair i'll mail to ya for cost of shipping... it's got an exposed wire, but i have electrical tape around it.. it does have a dock connector right?

uh, isn't the ipod cable pretty much unicersal among all "modern" models of ipods?
also, if you're looking for cheap prices, don't even tink about radio shack, they overcharge. alot.
i've seen some at k-mart and at wal-mart... i think they were like 6 or 7 dollars...

Anything Apple brand is going to be more expensive.
A Froogle search (http://froogle.google.com/froogle?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-25,GGGL:en&q=ipod%20usb%20cable&sa=N&tab=wf) yielded some cheap generic cables.

Not the cables but if you get the universal dock for 30 bucks it is. Plus it comes with the remote so you can plug it in to your stereo or controlr your ipod songs on your comptuer and play them with the remote.

hmm, the only ipod i've ever seen without the normal dock connecter used today is my bro's 1st gen model. excluding firewire/USB compatability. the dock-to-whatever part is has been the standard since it was first used in the third gen models. IOW, my sister's 3rd gen can use the same cable as her nano, and my 4th gen color. and, to the best of my knowledge the mini cas use the same cable.

Minis can. The only other exception would be the Shuffle.
